Illinois passes assault weapon ban

If I could I would gladly agree to separate from the communist east Canada and escape Trudopeism and join you guys down south. Can BC be included? Something is needed, this new craziness is running rampant.
No Toronto, No Montreal, No Ottawa, No Vancouver, No Victoria. Sorry if you live in one of these left wing chicken coops but its all about choices that you make.

I have not read the wording in the bill. Does anyone know how they define "assault rifle"?
@K-man
I have never owned and will never own an assault rifle.
None of my rifles have ever assaulted anyone regardless of magazine capacity or other bullshit.
My rifles are peace loving. They love to keep the peace but they have not assaulted anyone to the best of my knowledge.
Me on the other hand, that can be a different story especially with someone wanting to harm my family, oh and some idiots that may deserve it.

Semi automatic belt fed or detachable magazine, with a shroud partially or all the way around the barrel to keep the non trigger hand from being burned and pistol grip. Semiautomatic with a fixed magazine holding more than ten rounds.
Of course I’m paraphrasing, but that is pretty close. Also 50 caliber will be banned.
@Wyatt Smith
Does that mean my 5 shot Whelen will be banned because it has a partial shroud on the barrel to stop getting my hand burnt after 5 shots rapid fire. The shroud is called a fore end. So if I put a non pistol grip stock and wooden forfend on my AR and limit it to 5 shots it becomes legal.
What a bunch of dickheads

People would initially assume the image below is fake news. It is not. In the State of Illinois, if you'd like to murder someone, as long as you are high when you do it, you can be out without posting bail the very same day. Same for a variety of other heinous offenses including kidnapping. This is the SAFE-T Act and it was enacted on January 1st.

Does this sound any different than the gun ban discussed here? No, its the same marxist ideology designed to neuter resistance to a totalitarian regime. As long as people are self-reliant, there will be opposition. Taking away guns from the law abiding while allowing criminals to run free will create social justice, redistribution of wealth, and will create more dependence on centralized planners.

Texas welcomes all Constitution loving Americans with open arms!
@TXhunter65
Only if they have a gun. If not one will be provided to them. He'll John Wayne fought at the Alamo with Jim Bowie that's got to mean something to freedom lovers.
Seriously at least Texicans have brains when it comes to gun ownership.

That would be nice, but a more "palatable" solution would be to defund (take Federal funding away) those cities, counties and states that pass laws counter to decisions already rendered by the US Supreme Court. Several states here are passing firearm laws that have already been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. They continue to do so without any consequences and leaving their law abiding citizenry in limbo until the laws make it through the courts and are injunctioned. I believe the now Republican controlled House could block funding for those states if they chose to do so.
@CoElkHunter
Don't have to go that far mate .
Just stop paying all the stupid local,state and federal taxes. That way no one but the people will have any money. Imagine if no one paid any taxes for even a week that would hurt the govt at all levels.

Please correct me if I'm wrong; under the laws being passed in Illinois, NY and other places, all those hundreds of thousands of Ruger 10.22s, Winchester 94 22LR's (and many more) will be subject to seizure, and the owners prosecuted ... ??
Phark me drunk !!!

I don’t personally think the 10-22 will be unless it has a flash hider or pistol grip. All manually operated guns are safe.

10/22 is semi auto with a removable magazine, @Wyatt Smith . Unless there is a specific rimfire exemption, I don’t see why that weapon would be legal?

Postscript. Just read the rule and watched a video. Rimfire .22 semi-autos ARE banned, however there is an exemption for tubular magazine semi auto rimfires. So my first rifle, my marlin model 60, would still be legal. My second rifle as a kid, the 10/22, is a banned assault rifle.

I believe it lacks the other features that make it an assault weapon. Flash hider, pistol grip, and the like. It depends on how they define the barrel shroud.
For that matter a Ruger mini 14 might be legal.

I’m not reading it that way. It’s not like the old AWB where it is X+Y+Z=assault weapon. Pistol grips. Flash hiders, bayonet lugs, heat shrouds, forward grips, etc.

The ban says a semi-auto that has a removable magazine = banned.
Then it says 22 rimfire with tubular magazine = exception to the ban.

Can you verify I’m not misinterpreting it?

The way I read it is semi auto and has a magazine greater than 10=assault weapon.
Semi auto plus detachable magazine that is less than ten, with one of the listed features=assault weapon.
Semi auto with detachable magazine and no features= legal.
I am no lawyer, and will wait to get LE opinions.

Champaign County..Home of the University of Illinois…left wing nesting area…County Sheriff IS NOT, going to ignore but will enforce the New Gun Ban.. of course he would, he is a Democrat Lackey, a Left winger. One of a few Sheriffs that supports the new Law…the Illinois Sheriffs Organization was totally against the Gun Ban Bill, by it being unconstitutional.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
