If you could only have 3 guns....

12 gauge Remington 870 with two barrels--one 28" w/ choke tubes, the other 20" rifled slug bbl w/ iron sights. OK for hunting birds, small game, most larger game at short range, home defense. Easily available ammo everywhere.
Ruger 10/22 for general chores. Like the 870, dependable and nearly indestructible. Available ammo.
Ruger GP 100 in 357/38 for self defense. Available ammo, nearly indestructible, legal anywhere handguns are legal.

(But Damn! It's sort of a depressing way to have to think, isn't it? Just three guns? Forever???)

If I had to pick from the firearms I currently own:
CZ 550 American 6.5x55
FABARM L4S
CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical 9mm

Of what I have it would have to be:

12b Benelli Supernova - with 26" barrel with multichoke & 24" smooth bore slug barrel and rife sights - anything from bunnies to wild boar via anything that flies. Plus handy if someone comes knocking who isn't invited
9.3 x 62 with 8x56 illuminate ret scope and Aimpoint (with 230 to 325gr bullets it will deal with pretty much anything)
.22 lr Brno model 2 with a moderator sneaky and very quiet and good practice

- If I could change things I might go for a Browning SA-22 as semi-auto and a handy take down. Or if we could have pistols I'd have my P226 in 9mm back

drilling--12 ga.x 8x57, custom .22 rifle, sako safari rifle in 375 h&h--already have all three...
If no dangerous game would ever be available, then sub Mannlicher Schoenauer 30'06 for the heavy.

In Sweden were I live this is almost true. We are only allowed to have 6 hunting rifles/shotguns for hunting. For sport shooting (if we are practicing it as a sport in a club and could show competition results) you could have more guns.
But as a hunter only 6. Therefore rifles with changeable barrels are common because an extra barrel don’t counts as an extra gun. Therefore I have the Blaser system R8 with one 270 win for PG and Swedish game (moose, deer, boar) and a 375 barrel for example buffalos when in Africa.
If I had to choose 3 I would keep my Blaser with my 270 and 375 along with one of my Benellis M2 for geese and ducks etc.
Goodness, where Im from you can have a thousand Ar-15s and Ak-47s if you want. I know a guy that has over 30 Ar-15s! If I had enough money I could go and buy every single firearm at the gun store if I wanted to.

Cz550 in 308 with appropriate glass
Remington 870 wingmaster 12g
Sig 229 in 40 s&w

If you could only have 3 firearms for the rest of your life, what would they be (and what caliber) and why?
M1 US service rifle .30 cal because it is easily the most dependable semi auto full power rifle I have ever shot.
870 pump because sometimes things I shoot at move.
Last one is tough, but I am going to go with a .375 and not a pistol. Any burger worth shooting with a pistol is worth unloading a tube mag if buckshot into.

That´s interesting.... for a long time, I am wondering, why so many nice swedish guns come to the german used gun market....

In Germany you need a hunting licence to buy hunting rifles, which is hard to get...

Government makes a back ground check, where they figure out what happens under your bedcover....

But than you can buy and own as many hunting rifles as you want.

Handguns are limited to two..... but you can get more when you have an accepted demand.

7x57
.375h&h
470NE

Because those three will do their jobs with the most precision and least recoil. Also, they usually are chambered in beautiful guns often operated by sensible people.

ONLY THREE?!!!! You're cruel! But...
Of the guns I currently have:
.22 - 10/22
.30/06 - Mauser Mark X (my first centerfire)
12ga - Browning Cynergy

Hmm, only 3? For anything I'd ever want to hunt?

12Bore O/U Shotgun. Beretta if I'm poor, Holland and Holland if I'm not.
.375H&H Bolt action. Sauer if I'm poor, Rigby if I'm not.
.22lr bolt action. Anschutz maybe, or a Weihrauch.

That should cover anything and everything from bunnies to pheasant to elephant.

Given a fourth though I'd add a .270Win bolt action to cover smaller deer in the UK and worldwide.
Given a fifth I'd like a proper English double in .470NE.

I would own more then 3 no matter what

...got a heart attack, reading this!!!

375 ruger- has the ability to take anything in the world
308 - great all around north America lower 48 rifle
Glock 10mm- best automatic that has the ability to serve as protection in the forest and the home

As a millwright, I have to ask myself: "If you could only have three wrenches... (no adjustable spanners) what would they be?" It ain't possible!
But I see a lot of allowance for 'personal carry' 'home defence' etc. in this thread. Has anyone actually had to pull a gun on someone in that capacity? I have had to defend my home using a firearm but it was against squirrels and the occasional bear...

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
