Gert,

I haven't read any questions on this, so I'll ask:

Being an American, and your reenactment is 1882-1884. Would it be acceptable for an American to join your reenactment wearing American period clothing and to use an American period correct firearm?

Clothing could be anything from western, west of the Mississippi, "cowboy" attire to East of the Mississippi farmer or city "dude", to post "Civil War" "Yankee" military attire.

American firearms of this period were being converted from muzzle loading to black powder cartridge guns: Sharpes, and Remingtons, in rolling block and trap door actions and Henry's (Winchester) lever action. And of course black powder cartridge revolvers and shotguns.

I'll have to refresh my memory, but around these years a Frenchman (?) or Belgian (?) in Europe and an American in one of our New England states were both working on developing a "smokeless" powder.

Ridge Runner, yes, for sure, any international hunter who wish to participate in this hunt can use his own country`s traditional hunting clothes....remember, even during those days/years a lot of foreign hunters from all over the world hunted in Southern Africa ....I really wish some of our members on this forum would see their way open to participate in this hunt, I can assure you, you will have an experience few members ever will experience..keep in mind, all the game you shoot , their meat will be divided between all participants, we will use it for camp fair, making biltong, droee wors, or game sausage ...if you shoot an animal every day , then it is to your own enjoyment , as long as you keep hunting and shooting game for the camp you can keep on shooting game the whole ten days... The more game you shoot the more meat will be available in camp....

Thanks for your reply. I hope to join you all in 2021 or 2022. Since I like to participate in 1740-1780 reenactments, I will have to gain a better history and acquire the period correct equipment for the 1880-1884 era America.

What would you consider as maximum number of participants for your reenactment?

I am a member or our National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and acquainted with several other BP clubs which I will post your info to. IF you so desire?

Type/name brands of BP available and amount required(good estimate) and costs to purchase this amount,
Are "primitive" hand made bows allowed? What is minimal bow draw weight required?

Most of the American reenactors will probably consist of 1760-1780 (our American fur trade through the Revolutionary War), 1812 (actually 1813-1815 War), 1860-1865 (our American Civil War), and 1870-1885(1890's) (our western/"cowboy" years), very few 1740-1760 (our movement to settle the west into "wilds and wilderness").

Josef , my son, and I hunted Texas pronghorn this past October and while Colin and I used our .308 rifles to take our bucks at over 200 yards, Josef had to make a long crouch and crawl stalk to get within 100 yards of his- he nailed it!

CRS and members of NMLRA would you be interested in participating in this year`s 1885 era Black powder hunt in SA from the 30 April to 10 May 2020? We can negotiate a better cost ratio for your members?? Please let me know what you and your hunters prefer and if there are any interest in such a hunt as describe above??? I really am open to any suggestions and to accommodate any willing participate..If you only want to hunt on a normal hunt using your black powder rifles and outfit it will be done then..if you want to experience the 1885 Era hunt every one is welcome as well..please discuss any option /requirements from your side with me..as mentioned I will accommodate any possibility. Keep in mind on this hunt you are hunting for the group...so if you hunt a lot of game ...it is to your advantage ...looking at the costs of this hunt I really think you will not get such an opportunity ever on another type of hunt or Game farm where you usually hunt.. species you need to hunt include the following: Kudu, Blue wildebeest , Impala , warthog...a lot of them for the camp meat...

Thank you Gert, but I am not a black powder guy. I inherited a black powder revolver and gave that to my buddy Josef shown above with his flintlock Prong horn.
However, I will pass your offer on to Josef just in case he might be interested.

CRS, I really would appreciate it very much..we are doing our best to offer a great , exciting type of hunt to black powder hunters abroad...as pointed out it is done by the book and we have an Outfitter with PH`s who assist in this hunt..
