28 Nosler For Africa

It would be awesome to take a special rifle on a special hunt, for that I am 1000% behind the idea.
Just dont fall into the trap of shooting high BC target bullets at game. No matter how accurate they are.
Also dont take stupid long shots just because you think the rifle deserves them.

Good tough bullets and enjoy your hunt.

If your cartridges are lost in transit, you can always run down to Maputo or polokowane and pick up a couple of boxes of 28 Noslers.........NOT. But they did have 06, 308 and even 375 in stock. Good hunting............fwb

Sorry, Obi, - I misread your closing question.

For a custom build with your choice of twist rate and reamer, I'd build a 7mm RM, throated a little long to take advantage of the newer and / or longer bullets (168gr LRX), but If you want a 28 Nosler, go for it!

I recently watched a very interesting YouTube series on 7mm's.
Search for Little Crow Gunworks 7mm Showdown on YouTube.
In this series, they went head to head with the 280AI, 7mm RM, 7PRC and 28 Nosler.
Same brass, same primer, same bullet etc.
When it comes down to the nuts and bolts, there's very little "serious" difference between them all.
Not enough for a deer or elk to know the difference at 500 yards anyway.

My next custom will likely be a (Left Hand) 7MM REM MAG. I was close to getting a 28 Nolser built in 2018, but I wanted to use my 300 RUM more so I waited. The 7MM will be lighter than my RUM with a different stock, barrel, and trigger.

A good YouTube video from Little crow Gunworks on the 7mm's its the 7mm showdown episode #19 I think gives the best info.

I would echo, that if you plan to reload anyway, which you most certainly will need to do for the 28 Nosler, then by reloading the 7mm Mag and building up high performance loads for it, you can reach near equal performance using the more common, more available and more likely to survive long term, 7mm Mag cartridge. 7mm factory loads are mostly mild compared to what can be had with the roll your own variety. I do not reload for hunting rifles but do have a 7mm mag and am getting stellar results from 175g factory loads. Since the Barnes bullets seem to work good with lighter loads, you would not need to go bigger than about 160g with them. I used a 150g bonded on a large 12pr buck last fall with outstanding results. This was a complete pass thru - Bang-Flop.

As Flyguy said, "The deer and elk will not know the difference out to 500y"
