I really don't need it.....but

How many shots with no problem?

I only ask as one source said they all fail, you need to have cross bolts professionally fitted. That within a conversation about my cz in .375H&H
Well, I've only shot about two boxes through it. I bought it used, so I don't know how many total rounds have been fired through it. Probably not many?

Knowing that some CZ(s) are subject to feeding issues, that was a major concern of mine for this 458 Lott. Just in case, I contacted Tim at Matrix Gunsmithing and asked about cost and timing. He said that he was booked up till mid January, costs to get things up and running would be from $175 - $250 bucks depending on what he had to do. I thought that his "que" and costs were more than reasonable. Since I've received all of the necessary reloading components, I built four dummy rounds which I ran through the rifle about fifteen minutes ago. I'm happy to announce that this thing feeds rounds loaded with 500 Gr. Barnes TSX like a hot knife going through butter. YEA!! :A Big Hello::A Big Hello::A Big Hello:

Mark Biggerstaff told me last week, "that this rifle being one of the older ones, might not have any feeding issues." You were "right on" buddy.

Make sure you double check this if you plan on using flat meplat solids like the ones from CEB or Nosler. Some can be tricky...or feed just fine. Best to check and be sure.

Over the weekend my family and I traveled to Michigan to celebrate my parents 60th wedding anniversary. This gave my son Trip, an opportunity to handle his new 458 Lott. Hopefully one day soon he will get to use it in Africa.

Awesome. Tell him congratulations.

I believe there is an expression: "That's a lot of gun", no pun intended. The 458 Lott packs quite a wallop, but it delivers a hell of a punch. But like all the big bores, shooting at a target hurts a little; drop an elephant or a cape buffalo with one and it's, "Hell yes - that's what I'm talking about".

John at Safari Arms can load some watered down ammo if you need for practice and don't want to beat him up. I have brass if John doesn't.

So refreshing to see a young man of his generation holding a big game rifle instead of a cell phone.

PM me - I'll send you a box of ammo for his Africa trip.

He better hit the weights! :D That's an awful lot of gun for a kid that age. I'm guessing thirteen? Get him into HS wrestling. That will make him tough in a hurry.

Congrats. That's a great deal. Sometimes CZ 550s in 458 Lott have feeding issues, however I'm sure that Matrix will get that all sorted and you'll have rifle capable of taking anything you want.

Components shouldn't be a problem. Hornady still makes 458 Lott brass, all be it only in batches. Woodleigh is getting back up again and is currently doing a run of 458 calibre projectiles. Barnes etc also make 458 bullets.
If you handload, then you can also just get Hornady Basic Belted Magnum brass, run it one time through the full length resizing die, and you just made .458 Lott brass. Last box I got was $40 for 50 cases. They do come out slightly longer than stock Lott brass, so you'll need to trim them if you want it exactly right. There is NO headstamp though, so you'll want to buy the $80/50 cases actual headstamped Lott brass from Hornady to take to Africa.

I'm having my own Lott chambered (and I think 99% of them do this, actually) for the extra .050" of the full length .375 case (I believe it's 2.85".....for some reason Jack cut his down to 2.80") which is basically the same as a .450 Watts. They're essentially the same.

Anyway, you scored a Whale of a Deal here! Much easier than the Enfield I'm doing :) Go dude!

That’s a lot of gun for me to handle, and I weigh 235 pounds. As I posted earlier in this thread the Lott is his fourth DG caliber. Please note I said caliber not rifle, I believe this is his 6th DG rifle. His grandfather @Shootist43 has decided Trip will inherit all "his guns" my brother and I will have to settle for dad’s safe queens. If thing go well at the SCI in Nashville and I believe they will, @Shootist43 and I will take Trip on his first PG safari in June.

Come on, how hard is it to snap a picture? No pic, no new rifle.

I borrowed my father-in-law’s extra gun for years. I eventually purchased my first deer rifle in Bass Pro points. Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57. I just priced the new ones, they’re not getting cheaper. It looks like Lipseys is the only distributor nowadays.

Art,

I offered your son a box of ammo for his hunt, and I believe your father - Shootest43, responded with a PM giving his address. I wrote back asking if I can ship direct to his address or do I need to send it to an FFL and I have not heard back. I'm in Calif, so I may have to get an FFL to ship it for me.

Let me know

Fantastic rifle & caliber. Classy off the chart!
