Hunt Budget realistic?

Are you going to need to overnight in JoBurg? Are you going to get travel insurance and rescue coverage from someone like Global Rescue?

Is there anything else you plan to buy for the trip like boots, binoculars, gun case, new luggage, cartridge belt, clothes, etc.? That stuff slowly adds up if you don't have it already.
The only need is a cartridge belt but everything else i have in my hunt gear

I'll add to what Red Leg said. My hunt went from 2x1 to just me, when my daughter couldn't go. One on one all day long was a lot of time, so by day 4 my original list was done. I added warthog, a second impala, a springbok, and a management kudu for not a lot so I could hunt the final 3 days. On a somewhat related note, my skills and horns touched down in Alaska today. My taxidermist is shipping the non-shoulder mount ones out to me next week. SO EXCITED!!!!!

Your budget looks good. I think both guns get included on the same permit though? So only $150 for the pre approved permit. What two guns are you taking? Many of us here take only a 375 on safari and can shoot 300 yards easily. The double gun case may result in oversize charges. With your short list you may want to rethink taking two guns.

I will add global rescue to the list.

This is something i need to look into- i have a call in to Trophy Shippers right now.
You’ve got this included in your estimate already with $1000. His clearing fee is $450 I think, but he won’t be able to give you an exact quote. The final quote will include any miscellaneous charges and final shipping.

Well, i just purchased a CZ550 in .375H&H. I guess i could do both.

I may have to re think my scope. I WAS going to put a 1.5-5 in QD mounts on it.

I only have a 1.5-5 as my scope too. I’m happy with it to 300 yards. For what you are going after and the area, a 375 one gun safari will be better option than hauling two rifles.

You bet. i would like to shed the second gun (.300win)

less ammo to carry as well.

I have read the thread about tipping.

do you think i am OK in that regard?

$1000 to the PH and $800 divided up amongst the staff???

I would say you are ok. It really depends on how they run their operation. It’s my assumption on a ranch hunt like this for staff you will have a tracker, a skinner (possibly the same person), a cook, and a maid. I usually plan to give $20/day to tracker, $10/day to skinner, $100-$200 to cook, and $5-$10 per day to maid depending how many. I also give 100 rand each day to any ranch hand that rides with us. Tipping is very subjective and I tend to tip considerably more to those I think earned it.

I just did some figuring on my upcoming hunt this year and you are right on the spot on what I figured on tips for a 10 day hunt.

I think you are spot on. Add global rescue in there. Add 500 just for gear or misc stuff that pops up. But you are pretty close.

Here's a spreadsheet I put together to summarize my total costs. Not real complex, but if you get the details from the outfitter, dip/pack, shipper, travel, insurance, taxidermy, etc. you can input into this and have a reasonable estimate of the overall cost to go.

You will want to shoot more animals. Just no way around it, the more you look the more...I want enters your mind.

Like others have suggested using a travel agency is the best way to go. Like above I will also recommend Jennifer she was Johnny on the spot whenever we needed her. Flights will get moved around it just the nature of today. A side note on cost it wasn't really any more money the difference was not worth the headache.

Also make sure you have a valid passport, it could be a possible hold point if the passport office shuts down again.

I say your very close on your numbers, same as others have stated. All I will add is watch the deals and offers on here very closely. Sometimes deals that cannot be passed become available, $3k for a kudu strikes me as high, even for a 55" possible. I don't think costs will be much less but a couple other animals could get included. Worth watching this site. Last recommendation, I got a credit card that gives you points, pay for every thing with it and pay off totally every 21 days. =no interest. I have not paid for flights in 3 safaris. Cash out points, I am Canadian and Avion has best options with few restrictions. Flight $ now become trophy fee $$.

I think all your In Africa budget is correct. Your tips are well generous, but I am sure they will earn it. You dont have to take any further animals, a great buff and a good kudu can easily fill your 10 days and be very satisfying.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
