I went back and reread those reports. Reminded me of the first time I read them, so very exciting!

Might be a good addition to this thread if you could post your pictures of the recovered bullets from the Lion. You had said that 2 solids completely broke apart. It would be good to get those out in the open as first hand experiences of failures.

Most all of the DG ammo in Hornady that I sell is used for practice. But a lot of the locals use the Hornady ammo for Deer. I am particularly interested in the new ELD X bullet. I have found it very accurate but have not had a chance to try it on game but reports look good.

I'm a fan of the ELD-X - have shot several hogs, and several axis with the 143 gr out of my 6.5 Creedmor.

not me, not yet. but, i intend to buy some for my 450-400 and give them an honest try. i think the bonding process will make it a much better bullet.

i think they have not made too many of them yet. i have been keeping an eye out for some ammo that is bonded, with no luck. it will eventually show up on the market.

i was one of the detractors of the dgx bullets (unbonded) but am looking forward to trying the bonded bullets, i suspect they will do a better job. also, that video of kevin robertson shooting them into a cape buffalo was pretty convincing that they are now a better bullet

Well I just picked up a box of what should be the new bonded bullets but they have the same part number on them as the old ones??

Does the box say Bonded on it? The bonded DGX I have seen have a new label and say bonded on them.

I love Hornady bullets, for deer.
I have never recovered one of their 150 grain .30 cal soft points from a whitetail, they seem to completely fall apart, taking the entire chest cavity with it.
Did not use Hornady on my Cape Buffalo. I used 300 grain Barnes TTSX, and cutting edge brass solids. The TTSX lost one petal, and ended up just under the skin on its rump on a dead center chest shot. The cutting edge brass solid went completely through, and was not recovered.

The new bonded dgx bullets say bonded on the label and have a different part number. A number of retailers are still selling the old dgx at what should be reduced prices. I will be using the new bonded dgx out of a krieghoff 500/416 for Cape buffalo in August. Report will follow. The reason is simple very few mfg make 500/416 loaded and I learned I suck at reloading. Hornady prints well in the gun and I hope they fixed the issue. Time will tell.

Loaded ammunition of caliber 500/416 NE has a different part number for bonded vs non-bonded dgx bullets. I am interested to learn that the component bullets have the same part number. But in seems in both cases the bonded dgx bullets say "bonded" on the label.

Ok if it is 82681 ammo its obsolete non-bonded bullet ammo. If it is 82683 ammo it has bonded bullets. And to clarify; the bullets are the same number, but there is a B added to all bonded bullets, the packaging will say bonded in big bold letters. That makes absolutely sure you're getting bonded.

For that level of detail, you'd need to call the Hornady help line they can look it up in the production schedules. I live 23 miles from the factory... I know a guy.
