I will be keeping my Sako in .375 H&H. Without getting into any caliber debates, this is a caliber that with the right cartridge I can use for a variety of game making it a great all around rifle. I could use this for whitetail and black bear, all the way up to Cape Buffallo.

So I am looking for a magnification on my scope to be equally as versatile. I can make a case for each, but I would like some input from others as well.

Shots from 25 yards to 300 yards anywhere in between.

1-6x24, or 4-16x50? Both will be 30mm tubes and both Trijicon Accupoints, my favorite scope.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

With dangerous game on the list
I would want the low end to be 1 or 1.5
Now for animals that’s from reading and watching hunting shows
Unless you want to count hogs as dangerous.
But I still have my low power scope from the 90s on my serious use rifle.
And I like the low power

For sure the 1-6x24, I think perfect for your 375 H&H and can easily handle anything from 25-300 yards. Honestly, the 4-16x50 is way more glass than needed for a 375 H&H and not ideal for buffalo while the 1-6x24 would be fine for anything you may hunt in Africa.

Swarovski Z6i 1.7x10-42 with turrets... That is my 'go to' scope for nearly everything.

I have the Athlon Cronus BTR ED glass illuminated reticle dot scope 1-6x24mm. Used it on my Romanian brown bear hunt with Marius from HUNTROMANIA. The illuminated red dot@1.4moa is great. Small groups are possible at 300yds with this scope. Horizontal reticle makes sure you don't cant the reticle at distance.

1-6x at minimum.
Something with 1-2x on low end and 8-10x on the high end would be the most versatile, while having a wide field of view for buffalo up close and 10x for springbok at longer range.

No way would I put a 4-16 x 50mm on a versatile rifle especially a .375 that power level is for long range shooting 300-600 yards and even further on big animals.

The 2.5-12 x 42 mm accupoint is where I’d be looking. I have a similar power leupold on my .375 Ruger

I personally believe that the most versatile scope out there is a 3-9x40, and that's why 3 of my big game rifles wear them.

I have popped the heads off of grouse at 5 yards and shot elk at 600 yards with the rifles that they sit on.

Leupold VX6HD 1-6x24. Works perfectly for .375 in Africa and is great value for money.

300 WM would wear more magnification but not needed in .375 imho.

Meopta Meopro R2 1.7-10x42 - I have one on my Sako Kodiak in .375 H&H magnum - the perfect gun to hunt everything on the planet with in my opinion.

I opted for the Swarovski z8i 1,7-13,3x42 for my .375 H&H since it feels like it can do basically everything from very short distances to the longest I would consider to shot at and beyond.
Very similar to the Meopta

This is easy.
1x6x24 is specialized wide angle scope. Good at close range, mediocre at all other situaitions
Not ideal for longer distances, and certainly not having low light condition qualities.

4-16x50 gives following:
4x power, acceptable wide angle
6x power, average daylight stalking
7x power low light use, after sunset, or before sunrise
16x power for zeroing the rifle at the range, easy to see the holes on paper target.
Thus, 4-16x50 gives more versatilty.

I tried both my leopold 2-7x low profile and my 3-9x illuminated, I prefer the 3-9x
But have tally QD rings and a fiber optic express open site that is damn good in thick low light conditions if I don’t feel comfortable with the 3-9x

I would have no use for 16 power on anything except perhaps a specialized prairie dog rig, and I would like to go lower power than 4 on a .375. There are any number of 2x12, 2.5x10 thru 2.5x15 scopes which cover the general purpose use definition of the old 3x12. Buy the best you can afford.

Z8 1-8x is the classic. If a lot of dangerous game is on your list, this is it.

Z8 2-16x is it if you want one for bigger game and distance.
