Help Me Choose a 1911 Pistol

Hell you got the hard part done, you got the thing all put together, however, I was not aware that you had to build a platform for one. I think I could do that but hell I didn't know that, I have the 550 B I do believe there's a video you can get to help you along for like a mere $25 or something like that.

It had to do with the spacing of the 2x4's underneath the table top and be able to fit those big washers underneath properly. Just me having to work around my lack of planning on having a second press on the bench. If you saw it, you'd understand.

Once you get that thing going you'll be spitting bullets out like an ammunition factory. I never tried to break any records, I just take my time and load so that everything is working properly. I like to check each round after the powder charge to make sure it did indeed drop powder. But I'm sure that machine will be fast if you want it to be. Dillion makes good products. There no bullshit guarantee is just that, no bullshit. Any time I've needed something I've called and they've sent it to me, which hasn't been all that often.

Got a few loaded up last night while making die adjustments. Still need to tweak the crimp die a bit. But powder charge is set along with bullet depth. You do need to remember on the up stroke of the handle to give it that last push forward to ensure the primer is seated properly as well as pushing the next empty into place.

Anyone have opinions on the Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm?

Great side arm carried one for more than ten years every day, shot thousands & thousands of rounds in all sorts of conditions, never one stoppage, even suppressed.
For a new shooter the de cock feature is great IMHO.

I own several handguns.
But never had a 1911. That has been a big mistake I plan on rectifying soon.
I’m liking the new full size Ruger 1911 Target in 9mm Model 6759.
Should be a little less than $800.
This will be. Range gun —- not everyday carry.
(I did shoot a guy’s new Kimber, yesterday ——- sweeeeeet trigger. But about a $1200 gun.)

In 1988 when I bought my S&W5906 9mm, I was also looking at a Colt 1911 (of course 45acp) at the same gunshow.
If I would have went with the 1911, that may have been the only handgun I ever bought since, (except for some 22 pistols).
The 1911 in a 45acp is as close to a “do everything handgun” as there is.

But with 3 9mms in the safe and 2000+ rnds in my inventory, I most likley will pull the trigger on a 1911 in 9mm.

Short version is : I agree with Rob404.

So I find myself with more rifles than I really should have. It's been a fun run over the last 7 years when I started adding to my 2 or 3 rifle collection. Africa to blame for that along with kids coming up of age. I still have a couple more rifles to develop loads for. But after that, I'm not likely to buy more.......or at least that's what I'm telling myself at the moment. Honestly though with various 7mm's, 30 cals and three rifles primarily for Africa, I think I've got us more than covered.

So now what? Well my 14 year old has an interest in shooting. But he wants more than just shooting holes in paper and I must agree, it's time for a change. The local shooting club that I'm a member of has various handgun shooting leagues and I think it would be a hoot having done a little of this in the past.

My one and only handgun is a .357 S&W revolver which is primarily a camp gun and is dreadfully ignored. I'd like to add a 1911 or two to the armory. First thought is a .45 for me and a 9mm for the lad. But.......I haven't a clue. I can load and make the 1911's go bang, but that's about as far my knowledge goes.

The boy for whatever reason would like to have a Glock. I know they're well made and very reliable, but geesh they sure aren't visually appealing. For me, I'm thinking more along the lines of a Kimber, Colt, or Springfield.

What do you guys suggest?

I've got a Kimber Ultra CDP II in .45 ACP as well as a Kimber Ultra CDP II in 9mm. Wonderful pistols for the money.

Over the years I've owned several 1911's ranging from old WWII government models made by Singer Sewing Machine to Springfield "Loaded" TRP's.. and have loved them all..

I've been giving serious thought to picking up one of the new Kimber "Long Slide" pistols in 10mm to use as a hunting handgun for hogs and deer.. MSRP isnt terrible on them (about $1050), and I've yet to own a Kimber that didnt function perfectly right out of the box as long as you stuck with either wilson or CMC mags..

I’ve just ordered my first 1911! I’ve always liked the look of 1911s, this is the shape that comes to my mind when I think of a gun. This might sound a little strange to folks over in US and simply insane to the antis but as a young boy I dreamt an impossible dream of one day owning a gun, to me it looked like freedom and adventure, the ability to feed and protect oneself regardless of what life had in stock for them and it was in a shape of 1911. But growing up in a communistic country and I mean communist in the real sense of the word, it was a far fetched dream - regimes don’t like their citizens armed. But things are different now and despite owning several handguns I was still missing a 1911. Somehow I couldn’t justify buying one. I have several 9mm pistols, a nice 357/38 wheel gun, a 10mm, a target 22... All my needs are covered. Several times I nearly bought a .22 1911 but I frequently read that they are unreliable and I absolutely hate unreliable, I mean I’m allergic to it and besides .22 is not a real 1911. But it had to happen sooner or later so I figured it may as well happen now and I ordered a lovely looking Kimber Classic Carry Elite in 45, I believe some of you might call it a bbq gun. It’s out of production but a dealer in Germany had one in stock and so my import papers will be ready in a couple of days meaning in about two weeks I should receive it. Can’t wait! Any tips for a first time 1911 owner? I don’t think it’ll be my daily carry, I usually wear a HK SFP9 (VP9 in US). I’ve got a tru-glo green laser on it as well as set of tritium/fibre optic sights and I couldn’t care less if it gets scratched or marred, it’s not too hard to conceal (a legal must) and I don’t mind shooting it. It’s not the best pistol out there and I can definitely shoot my Walther Q5 better but it’s too big to carry. I dislike Glock 19 and shoot it very poorly, in fact I shoot my 2.5” 357mag better than the G19 as I do my 10mm Glock 20. Nothing wrong with the 19 though-during a focused range session with a good instructor I shot it just fine but without being super focused (and slow) I land everything in bottom left corner. The gun is absolutely fine, my instructor shot it accurately as did I when instructed. I just hate the recoil of it somehow, that’s right I’m not bothered at all by G20 in 10mm-in this gun recoil translates to muzzle jump but in G19(4th gen) it somehow feels “springy” I can feel it resonate in my hands, makes me flinch. I’d sell it but it doesn’t scream “I’m hungry” and there are so many of them on the market that I could get maybe half of what I paid for it. Having said so if you’re in Europe and wanna by gen4 G19 with an honest 500-600 rounds count, with 3 mags and several holsters, still under warranty do let me know.

@Opposite Pole , the most common problem with 1911's is many are picky about magazines. If you have failures to feed, the first place to look is always the magazine. It will be the culprit most of the time.

Kimber factory magazines are made by Chip McCormick (http://www.cmcmags.com/). Those are among the best made. Your Kimber should have no problem feeding with them.

In my opinion the absolute best 1911 magazines are Wilson 47D's. If you decide you want some additional magazines, I would recommend you order the Wilsons (http://shopwilsoncombat.com/1911-Ma...ze-8-Round-Standard-Base-Pad/productinfo/47D/). They are a bit expensive, but you'll find that a huge number of the guys on the professional competitive shooting circuit shoot wilson magazines exclusively. No one makes a better 1911 magazine in my opinion.

Congratulations on the purchase. The 1911 is a wonderful pistol. Most are very accurate right out of the box, theyre fun to shoot, and even more fun to customize and "make it your own".

my wife and i each have the 5906,s&w in 9mm.we used to take three mags with 15 rounds in each mag and one in the pipe and go spend a day hunting ground squirrels,46 rounds each,she always did better than me.

I planned on using my 5906 as a trade for the Ruger 1911 Target at my local gun shop.
