Hunted
South Africa
Hi everyone, I've been on this site many times so I figured it was high time to create an account. I'm a lifelong whitetail hunter and I just got back from my first hunt in Africa. Hopefully there will be many more. I plan to take one hunting trip per year and I'm torn on where I should go next, in 2025 (I'm going hunting in Greenland in 2024). I'm thinking either a Cape Buffalo, a Leopard, or maybe even an ibex in one of the "Stans". Anyway, I'm glad I finally signed up because I don't really know anyone that hunts internationally so I look forward to contributing and learning as much as I can from everyone!

:S Welcome:

Hello AlbertAlbuquerque,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

When you have a spare moment, have a look into the Khomas Safaris website.

Meanwhile, I look forward to your Hunt Reports from wherever your wandering soul has hunted (hopefully, with plenty of photographs).

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

PS:
If I did not live in Alaska then, up in the mountains of New Mexico would be one of only a few places in the “Lower 48 States” that I would look seriously at, as my place to live out what’s left of my life on earth.
Love that part of the world.

Welcome, tell us about your first Africa Hunt? Where’d you go, who’d you hunt with, what’d you shoot? We only get a first time in Africa once so it’s always great to hear about someone else’s. Your first buffalo is pretty special as well

Sorry for the late response but I went to South Africa, in the Greater Kruger area. The main animals I targeted were a hippo and a kudu but we also hunted porcupine, baboon, and warthog. The hunt was a success as I harvested all five of these animals and all (except the warthog) were fantastic trophy sized animals but I'm sorry to say I walked away feeling a little disappointed in the experience. I think the main reason for that is because I was hoping to have a big adventure like I'd read so much about but I spent my time there hunting on a working farm 15 minutes outside of town where guys were picking oranges or driving tractors around the whole time I was hunting so there was no sense of adventure or wilderness whatsoever. I also shot the kudu, warthog, and porcupine from the truck. I was hoping to hunt the hippo on land too but it was so cold the week I was there, the hippos didn't leave the water at all during the day and my PH said we couldn't hunt them at night for some reason I can't remember. I consider myself blessed to have been able to harvest great trophy quality animals and that the hunt went smoothly but the trip didn't satisfy my want for adventure or leave a lasting impression on me. But I learned a lot on the trip and now I know I'll either have to book a dangerous game hunt in South Africa or a hunt in Zimbabwe/Zambia/Namibia to get that wilderness experience I'm looking for and I'm thrilled at the prospect.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Just moving to DM. Yes, please ask your friend if he knows somebody who might be willing to support a persistent hunt in the snow.

This is Daniel from Mankazana Safaris.

I saw your post regarding a hunt in Africa. I am sure you have been bombarded with messages and replies from other outfitters, so I will keep this one quick.
I have a feeling we have exactly what you need for a first safari.
