Has it ever happened to you..

What were u armed with?
.375 H&H with 300 grain barnes. 30 yards I think. One shot frontal brain. Her back feet went down so fast she left 10 feet of skid marks. She was doing over 30 miles per hour and breaking trees without slowing down. No question if it was a bluff charge. My P.H. was ready with a Heym 470 NE with 500 grain sledgehammers. It wasn't needed this time. Such a sad ending, it's been difficult to relay the story.

Interesting your PH was well equipped so were you. Did you use Barnes solids or TSX?

TSX. I'm sure I had solids in my belt but there wasn't time to consider reloading. Just put bullets in the target and hope you put them where they belong.

Agreed, shows that even a expanding does the trick with right placement

So, in a situation like this I will assume you did not have a permit for an elephant. What would therefore be the process? Is it a pain in the butt or something else as it was a life and death situation?

The mature tusker was many years ago, while tracking the buffalo in my avatar, on a 100,000 acre property called “Maruli” or “Baruli” not sure which, bordering Kruger Park, South Africa, open to the park and only fenced on one side, up by the road.

The one with small tusks was April of this year, while fishing in the Okavango River, Caprivi Strip, Namibia.

The huge crocodile was during that same fishing trip.

The grizzly was about 5 or 6 years ago, while fly fishing for silver salmon (aka: “coho” salmon, Brooks River, Alaska.

Excellent pictures was the croc coming after you

Had a .22LR in hand looking for small stuff when this lioness was discovered while hunting on Zim

Thanks for that compliment but, I’m really not much of a photographer.
And the croc ya, I doubt he was after anything except a lazy handout, as he was swimming very very slow.
My best guess is that he was accustomed to people who stand around in stationary boats, sometimes toss fish heads and such, overboard.

That you encountered an elephant or lion in close proximity while hunting PG?

in Big 5 countries always.
Apart from the leopard, everything was there, including the black rhino.
However, we only ever had trouble with elephants.
We were attacked a few times.
They can be really moody creatures:mad:

Is he coming or not?
I have often been reprimanded by my PHs that I should sometimes have concentrated more on the rifle and not on the camera in such situations.
Two rifle barrels are more likely to stop than one.
Distance around 15 m

In this small dry creek there was a lot to track.
Fresh tracks of rhino, buffalo and I don't know what else
It was soon too dangerous for us and we preferred more open terrain.

Hard to believe a cruiser can’t outrun an elephant! Is it possible that “inability to escape” was on purpose? :) I have been charged/chased twice by angry cow elephants in full, “going to kill you”, pursuit. Each time luckily in a cruiser and we had no trouble outrunning the cows. Anyway, makes for good story ;)

Once had a young bull elephant try to ambush us from an acute side angle, making a couple of charges at our cruiser. We were able to out maneuver it and get out of there. He was probably what some call an “askari”. It was in an area with a high density of old bulls.

Have bumped into black rhinos a few times. Never charged nor have they shown aggression. However, each time, I would call their behavior as “squirrely”. They are definitely unpredictable and not to be trusted.

That sure looks risky, with dense foliage around and not been able to see what is lurking in them

swung down wind on a group of buffalo and stumbled upon s cow rhino snd calf. She had a fit while I and PH hid on brush when she left the buffalo were alerted and as the lead bull came at us I took him front on one shot at moderate distance the bullet took heart lungs liver and more he pilled into brush and death moan followed. Then the show started when the heard tried to get him up

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
