Has anyone sucessfully mounted a wall shoulder mount to a pedestal base?

I got my kudu shoulder mount back from the taxidermist and it looks great. But I discovered the place on a wall I intended does not have a stud - just drywall. The mount weighs 40 lbs, extends out 42", and approximately 50" tall from horn tips to bottom of chest. Ceiling in my gun room is 8'. My thought now is that a floor pedestal would work. Any ideas? A couple pics attached.

I turned a wall pedestal blesbok into a tabletop pedestal. I bought the base and a termite mound from McKenzies taxidermy supply. They have a variety of options. Look them up!

If you want to try the wall mount still you could look at some drywall anchors. I actually did that for a Kudu mount I have and its been fine. You can also look at skullhooker.com for some other options/ideas.

I am sure you could turn that into a floor pedestal, just depends on what you want visible from the back etc...

No, but I had a similar problem as you as no stud centered where my Kudu was mounted. I tried several drywall hangers but there was too much forward weight. I bought a plaque and mount the plaque to the studs and then a bolt into the plaque. It looks like a plaque mount from a distance, but the Kudu is somewhat easily (with two people) removed from the plaque. I have 10 foot ceilings. The full photo is under my media.

Simple solution. There are studless wall mount hangers that can handle 200lbs! We use them all over our place for taxidermy, heavy/huge mirrors, etc.

These guys get the job done. I have an elk in my workshop hanging from one. I've NEVER had them come loose. The only mandate is they must be attached only to drywall, they will not work if you hit a stud or blocking behind them.

I HAD MINE MOUNTED WITH A NICE HANGAR THAT HAD 4 HOLES FOR DRYWALL ANCHORS RIGHT BETWEEN TWO STUDS. AFTER XX# YEARS, NOTICED THE KUDU LEANING A BIT OFF THE WALL, THE DRYWALL WAS GIVING OUT. GOT A PLAQUE AND LIKE @wesheltonj MOUNTED PLAQUE TO WALL AND USED MY SAME ANCHOR TO HANG KUDU ON PLAQUE.

You could also try “full range hanging system” they have to be attached to a dud but have an arm that swivels 180 degrees.
I have kudu, waterbuck, springboard and bushbuck hangers on them.

I like your option. I wasn't sure about the plaque option, but seeing it, it works very well. Thank you!

Here is my wall pedestal blesbok I turned into a tabletop pedestal. Much smaller than a kudu but it could be scaled up for a kudu, I’m actually thinking of making some sort of pedestal for my gemsbok to free up some wall space.

When I started to run out of wall space, I started doing pedestal mounts. I currently have 9 pedestal mounts and 3 floor base mounts for lifesize mounts. I've made all of my pedestals and bases myself, most out of cherry wood, a few out of oak, and the base for my leopard out of dark stained alder wood.

To the OP's question, the pedestal mount of my Scimitar horn oryx is a wall mount form that my taxidermist covered the form back with leather, like for regular pedestal mounts, and he put a square steel tube inside the form that slides over a square steel rod anchored to the top of the pedestal.

Beautiful job! I ended up mounting mine on a wall for now. It comes out 42", so a pedestal may not be the best option for me.

If you can at least reach one stud, you could use a French cleat which has two pieces - one attaches to the wall, one to the back of the item you are hanging. French cleats also give you some wiggle room in sliding the mount right or left as long as most of the two cleats are on top of each other.
