Siblings

These two apparently were siblings. Their mother was not in the frame at the time taken. Hippo Valley Zimbabwe in 2006.

This is a pic of my father (76) and I on our first elephant safari in 2008 (Dads' bull). We've been hunting partners for 40 years.

Father and Son

My favorite picture. Taken in Zimbabwe 2008 by one of our PHs (Mark Dewet). This was on our first elephant safari. This is a rare moment when Dad and I were actually hunting together (normally we hunt seperate areas with our PHs and tell our stories around the fire pit)

Lucky enough to not just see 2 bushpigs in the middle of the day, but able to bag both with one lucky shot.

Hunted in Limpopo August 2010.

Lion vs Elephant

watermark.php

This young Lion must have been very hungry and ambitious to tackle this young Elephant. They were surrounded by a herd of Elephants when he tried to grab this one. Unfortunately for him the Elephant was too big to begin with, and the moment he sounded the alarm, his mother came running. That was when the Lion beated a very hasty retreat.

Unusual Springbok Trophy

Springbok trophy shot by Gerrit Visser, hunter from South Africa.
It was a wonderful shot, totally unexpected, at first we thought it was a female and that we had made a mistake. The thin and very long horns very totally unexpected from a male.
Location: Rus-en-Vrede Hunting Ranch, Namibia, Africa, in the Kalahari Desert.

A part of a old picture, that I took in a old restaurant, with a old friend after one of my unlucky hunting trip in Tanzania...

watermark.php

I know where you saw this photo (morogoro), pity you were unsuccessful in Tanzania, but hope you enjoyed the experience. That wide bull is the World Record that was on display at SCI this year. At this point, he was part of a group of five bulls and the amazing thing is that two of them were over 50". The other two were over 40", but all dwarfed next to the 63". The good old days!

My favourite hunting moments

Black face impala, shot on the Kalahari red dunes, of Namibia

Magnificent greater kudu shot by Chris Rossouw from South Africa

Tim Adams from the USA shot a black wildebeest on an very cold winters morning. His outfit and the placing of the whole trophy against the background of the Kalahari made this a very special picture for me.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
