Wow! What an incredible surprise this was!! Congratulations and good luck to you as well 35bore! Many thanks to Jerome and Willem for offering this opportunity to AH members.
Willem and Jerome
Thank you very much for the opportunity. I plan to go to africa in 2012 or 2013. When I make my plans, I will certainly Consider Willem. The contest is very generous of him.
Andries, you do indeed have the best guesses which clearly shows that we were not wrong in our belief that being from Africa and able to see and hunt these animals your whole life gave an unfair advantage in this contest. Sorry that the contest is not open to you however congratulations on your excellent judging skills! :first:
Jaco, I did see that your guesses also tied, however since you are residing in South Africa your entry was not considered as a possible winner. Sorry for the misunderstanding but it is the first rule stated for the contest as we felt that it would be unfair to those who have not had a lifetime of experience seeing these animals in the wild. Nonetheless congratulations on your great guesses!
Hi Jerome. Its fine with me. I love it when foreign hunters visit our country and have a ball! Just thought it could be mentioned that S-Africans can judge trofees as well! Anyways, a hearty congrats to those that made it, hope they hunt well. Regards. Jaco.
PS: I stay 2 1/2 hours drive from Koedoeberg and it would be nice to meet the winners on their hunt in SA, and join them one evening for dinner.
Here are the two trophies to be judged for the tie breaker between nkjonas and 35bore. The opportunity to participate in the tie breaker is limited to these members.
For fairness we have decided that instead of posting the trophy judging guesses they should be sent to Jerome by PM for both the Oryx and Impala pictured below in this thread within 3 days from the time that these photos are posted. I will post the results once both of the members have each submitted their guesses to me. Only one submission will be accepted from each member. Please submit your measurement guesses in inches with decimal points as directed in the original post. Good luck to the both of you!

Jerome, Maybe I don't quite understand, do we just post our guesses or are they to be sent directly to you? If they go to you, how do I go about doing so? The part I don't get is "sent to Jerome by PM". Thanks
Please do not post your guesses, they are to be sent to me directly.
Sorry for not being more clear... PM stands for Private Messages, basically a feature on AH that allows members to send each other messages through our system, very much like an email but it remains internal...
Well, I can hardly believe it but the two of you have a tied again! Apparently you are both excellent judges of African plains game. I am sorry to have you do this again but here below is one more picture to judge. Hopefully this will be the last. As before please email me your best guess.
The opportunity to participate in the tie breaker will be limited to the members who have tied and two days (48 hours) from the time that the tie breaker photo is posted.
The actual trophy measurements for the trophy judging contest tie breaker are as follows:
Gemsbok/Oryx - 35.50 inches
Impala - 22.75 inches
If nkjonas is willing, I think thats a great idea (at least I could keep whats left of my hair this way). I was going to take my wife (observer), but, now that this has been suggested I can check your daily rates for non-hunter.
Wow! Another tie! I just contacted Calven (35Bore) and we jointly decided to split the hunt as suggested by Willem. I was planning on brining my wife as well think it would be a fantastic time. Thanks again to Willem and Jerome for offering this opportunity of a lifetime!
I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
