For sale is a Krieghoff Classic Big Five in 470 Nitro Express. Built in 1998. Weight of 10.5lb and LOP 14 7/8. Extractors only (no ejectors). Includes pivot scope mount. I purchased the rifle used but took it to the Krieghoff service center in fall of 2021 for a complete inspection, cleaning, installation of upgraded hi-viz sights and new recoil pad. When installing the sights they tested the regulation with Hornady DGS factory loads. That is the regulation target included in the photos and will come with the rifle. The regulation load from 1998 when the rifle was built is not known. Overall rifle is in excellent mechanical condition. Bluing is also excellent. No gouges, cracks or scrapes in the stock but I can notice a few minor depressions in some areas. Not really deep enough to show up in the photos. I am selling to invest in 450-400 double. I am comfortable with the recoil in my 404 Jeffery and want a double more in that class. Asking $11,750 shipped to your FFL in the lower 48. Happy to answer additional questions and provide any specific photos.

Beautiful!

Super nice double, wrong handed for me!!! Someone is going to be a lucky owner!!!

Nice rifle! I have one.

Single or double trigger. If double is front trigger articulated? Any ammo available?

I know I am getting old, I remember when I looked at a used one that had some “character” added to the wood by baggage handlers. I needed a beater for the rain forest in Cameroon at the time. It was $6,500. Just looked at current prices and … inflation is a sun of a gun!

Double with articulated trigger. I have 31 rounds of federal 500 grain Woodleigh soft and 5 rounds of federal 500 grain Woodleigh solids that I would include @ $175 for all 36 rounds. This ammo came with the rifle when I purchased.

Nice double @ay2626. What 450/400 do you have in mind? Any particular reason you prefer 450/400 over 470?
I am admittedly not an experienced double rifle shooter and I am finding the recoil on the 470 to be a bit much, especially in learning to handle the double. I have a 404 Jeffery bolt rifle which I find very comfortable to shoot and want to get a double more in line with that class of recoil. I am currently looking at a Heym. I met Chris Sells (US Heym importer) through another transaction on this site and that got me moving in that direction. Also, since the debate always seems to go between Krieghoff vs Heym l, I thought I would try the other.

Very nice double. Since it’s regulated with Hornady solids, it would make someone a great choice for elephant. The extractors are also preferred for elephant by some PHs because it’s a more quiet operation.

Do you know how it shoots with softs?

You will not regret getting a Heym. Are you going to opt for the 88b or the 89b?

I've only tried it with the Hornady solids. I had a box of Hornady softs that I picked up to test out but I ended up selling them on here to someone else that needed them more urgently then I did.

I’m heading towards the 89b. I’ve followed your posts and those by others on it and find them pretty compelling. I’m also at the age to justify it as an over the hill / mid-life crisis present to myself.
