It has been a long slow moving disaster. I came somewhat close to flooding at home on Saturday, but did not. My business and of course my houseboat are fine. One of our employees house flooded in Lafayette. It is already gutted and drying waiting on an adjuster. Youngsville was hit hard over the weekend.
I went to work Monday, kind of living in my own little world, with everything ok. Tuesday I watched a news report out of the Baton Rouge area and could not believe the tragedy that was unfolding long after the rain quit falling. Areas that never flooded were/are under water in the BTR area, particularly Ascension and Livingstone parishes.
And to the west of us, Lake Arthur was under a mandatory evacuation order yesterday with water rising on the Mermentua River. It is expected to crest Friday.
I-10 is shutdown from 165 all the way to I-49.
Plenty of people have helped with rescues and cleaning homes. It is a terrible tragedy but good to see a little good in the human race.
