Closing the loop on some prior posts. I joined AH in August when myself and a couple buddies decided we wanted to go to Africa for the first time. I originally asked about 7-10 day plains game hunts. Scope creep quickly took over and we decided on a Tanzania dangerous game and plains game hunt.
Thank you to all who posted replies and sent me private messages. I received some very helpful information. I did a ton of research on various outfitters in Tanzania, including several sponsors on this site. I feel all of the ones I spoke with would provide us a great hunt. I especially enjoyed speaking with Nathan at Bullet Safaris. Very enthusiastic and seems like a guy that would be great to hunt with. Extremely competitive pricing also. We also spent some time in person with Michel Mantheakis and one of his PHs. Michel has a great reputation and would also provide a great experience in my opinion. I received strong recommendations for both of those outfitters, and a couple other sponsors, from people on AH.
We learned that some friends hunted with Adam Clements Safari Trackers very recently with excellent results. Personally knowing someone with first hand and recent experience is the gold standard for us. After a number of calls with Adam and references we booked with Adam for October of 2023. There will be 4 of us hunting 1x1.
Life obligations don’t allow us to do a 21 day trip. Not knowing if we will ever be back, we decided to hunt 2 separate areas over 16 hunting days. We each will have leopard, 4x buffalo and all the western and northern plains game available. We will start in moyowosi in Western Tanzania for 10-11 days for leopard, buffalo, croc, sable etc. We understand that spending less than 14 days in the primary leopard area will impact the chance we all take a leopard but we made some trade offs to experience 2 areas. We should have an excellent chance at a few leopard anyways. After moyowosi we will move to Masailand for 5-6 days for the gerenuk, lesser kudu, gazelles etc. We have a little flexibility on the time spent in each area if necessary.
It is going to be a long wait until Oct ‘23 with lots of dreaming about the hunt. I am optimistic it will be worth the wait!
