Double Rifle Shoot in West Ky?

We're gonna go with "Big Bore Shoot" ha ha. Bring your bolt guns, ruger Number 1's. It'll be a combined "squirrel" shoot for the kids and we are also going to try to get a sub guage double barrel shotgun and some slugs so the kids canntake a whack at the buffalo target as well.
Still looking at Oct. 19th. I am going to touch base with my buddy and I'll let you all know if there are any new developments.

I have a Mossberg 695, and an o/u 10ga I’d be happy to bring (or send if I can’t make it myself) for that purpose as well.

Oy Lads. It looks like Oct 19th is going to be the day? I have two 375's that I can bring plus a 12 ga dbl is you want to shoot some clays. It is not a double rifle but it kicks a lot like one, lol. I would be coming from Morehead. Plan to visit land between the lakes for some rimfire squirrel hunting either the day before or after the shoot. What is still needed is: Exact location and planned start time?

I just returned from a South African safari about a month ago and am still aglow from that fantastic experience.

Rifles:
  • FN Browning Safari Grade with Swarovski Z6i in 375HH
  • FN Browning Medallion Grade with BalVar 2.5-8x in 308 - used both these in SA recently
  • ERShaw Custom P14 Enfield in 375HH
  • 12ga SXS
  • One more that I could bring if we want to get outside the box a little. Will PM the OP to ask

Yep. I just talked to Kevin and we are going to get together tomorrow afternoon and work on some of the details. It will be Oct. 19th and I believe we will start around 08:00 in the morning. I hope to co.e up with a couple of shooting contest ideas for a little bit of informal competition. I have a shot timer and I plan to build a frame to put up the life size cape buffalo targets. It should be a good time. We will probably try to have a little something to snack on as well, I may smoke a pork shoulder or something like that.

I will try to make this…no promises. If I can make it I will bring my Rigby DR in 470 NE with plenty of ammo for people to enjoy shooting it. Please share final agenda with place, times and recommended lodging close by

Will do. As for lodging Paducah KY is about 30 min from where we will be shooting, there are hotels in Mayfield which is a little closer but, Paducah is probably where you'll want to go.
Kentucky Regulator Gun Club is the location

Hoping to make it down. I'll be able to bring a few fun things, 458 Lott, 375.

Wonder how much a ticket is to KY from WA... I might be free in October. Assuming a scruffy fat northerner such as myself is welcome.

Always my man.
I'm going to meet up with Kevin this afternoon if nothing changes and we are going to iron out some of the details. I am scheduled to be off work that weekend, but anyone who works a swing shift knows, that doesn't mean a whole lot, so I'm going to put in for a week of vacation. That will give me time to get things better organized. This will be a pretty informal event but I expect it to be a good bit of fun. I think adding the shot timer and having the full sized buff targets and some shooting sticks will allow us to shoot in some fairly realistic field conditions. Hopefully get some kids there for the squirrel shoot and get them exposed to some African rifles and cartridges so that we can keep future generations interested in this kind of hunting.

It has been a while since I've looked at plane tickets, holy cow these critters are expensive! For some reason there is also no direct flights... I will keep looking.

What would the nearest airport be?
We have one in Paducah. It's a small one and it only connects through Charlotte I believe. That would be the easiest if the price is reasonable. Nashville is about 2 and a half hours out. PAH I believe is the code for Paducah.

@Andrew Short has a post in the double rifle section that gave me an idea, for Google purposes I live about 20 minutes from a town called Paducah KY. I have a nice range just down the road from my house which I believe I could procure for a day of double rifle and big bore shooting. I'm just brain storming here, but there are a couple hotels right down the road and I have plenty of room to host here at the house. I have a few of the life size buffalo targets and I have a buddy that has 10 promatic clay throwers. I might be able to talk him into setting up a little five stand action. This might be a good opportunity to do some shooting just for fun or to get some good training in if you have a hunt in the near future. If there is any interest then we can start looking at dates and details, probably do it mid spring March-May time frame.
Let me know what y'all think and we will see what we can do.
I’m in if I can make the schedule work.

We are on hold again! I put in for the week of vacation today only to find out someone I work with had just put in for that same week a few days earlier. We have a shutdown that week so there is a possibility that I may still.be able to pull it off. I should know something in the next couple days.

I'll be there.
Is there an official signup list or fee ?
I might need to join your club just for access to the facilities whenever,
you know, expand my horizons.
2 hour drive for me.

Sorry to miss. I will be up in Michigan that week. You kids have fun, and I don’t want anyone shooting his eye out.

I just wanted to give you all an little update on the shoot. Things are progressing nicely on this end. I have vacation secured at work for the week of the shoot. This will give me time get some target stands built and help get us set up. I'm hoping to cook some bbq the day before and have the wife deliver it so we can have some lunch. Kevin has secured the ammo donated by KYGUNCO. We have a large amount of 22 for the kids who will be coming for the "squirrel shoot" and they also donated a case of 375 H&H as well as a case of 416 Rigby. Yeah, that's right boys! A case of each! Kevin has a 375 and a 458 WIN and I have a 416 as well as a 470 that will be available for people to shoot. We are working to get some 458 ammo. Hoping to provide some opportunities for people who don't get to shoot these type rifles to be able to get some "hands on" experience. We also hope that with Kevin, Myself, and any of you fellows that show up we will have a good base of knowledge on planning and executing an African safari to share with any people who may come and are considering planning a trip in the future. I hope to come up with a few fun and interesting shooting drills for us to have some friendly competitions to test our field shooting skills.
When you get a chance let me know on here if you are definitely planning on attending so I can get a rough estimate of about how many of you guys will be coming down. Looking forward to seeing you all down here in Oct!

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
