DOH Airport Qatar Lounges

I will be flying back through DOH airport next March, Qatar Airlines. I will be arriving into DOH around 10pm, will have a 9 hour layover. Since I will be flying business class, I will have access to their lounges. My question is, for those who have flown through DOH, what are my options for resting during a 9 hour layover? I would prefer a place to lay down if possible.

Business lounge is large, plenty of room, pretty good food, showers. No bunks.

We always get a room at the Oryx when we have a layover of more than 4 hours or so. Very comfortable and quiet. The lounge is close by for food and drinks.

Like others have said.
I have been thru Doha on a couple of trips. My longest layover was 4 hours. I stayed in lounge that entire time. Showered etc.
Layover of 9 hours I would get a room.

First off, thank you for buying my ammo, greatly appreciated. Second, the Oryx Airport Hotel, for a 9 hour layover seems like the ticket. I'm guessing once you get off the plane you start looking for the Hotel Oryx sign and simply walk to the hotel, 10-15 minute walk?

I’ve had an 8 hour layover and simply passed it at Al Mourjan Lounge. It’s very comfortable, good food & showers, plenty quiet to nap. I chose to not stay at the Oryx Hotel as it was approx $350.00, which I didn’t feel was worth it for a few hours sleep.

For some reason, it still seems to being kept a secret. But as I learned last October when flying thru Doha, there is another hotel option. It is the Oryx Garden hotel. It had opened just a few months before we flew thru. It's located near the C14 gate and the rooms there ran about 1/2 what the main Oryx hotel in the center of the airport did. We got a room there and it was every bit as comfortable as the Oryx Hotel which I have stayed in also.

Now how you can get a reservation is still a mystery. We only heard about the new hotel when we decided after a couple of hours to go ahead and get a room at the Oryx Hotel. They had none available but directed us to the Oryx Garden which did have rooms available.

Oh and you don't have to walk there from the center of the airport. There is a sky train there, you can see it as this guy is walking to the hotel. The train will drop you off pretty close to C14.

About 10 min walk. Same area as the lounge.

Hotel room for sure. Pre book the room though, you can’t get hotel rooms at the desk. Sleep and fly had tiny pods, some with larger rooms for a less money, but you have to pay extra for a shower and it’s not located near the pods, at least the ones I stayed at in duty free south. I will get the hotel room next time if I fly through Doha.

I like Qatar but it’s an extremely long transit. 41 hours for me.

You are right on the dividing line IMO on whether or not to get a room at the Oryx hotel in he airport. I would likely get a room but don't miss the Al Mourjan lounge! The hotel has a spa and indoor pool. Along with the obvious that is where I would be. My Qatar flights next year have very short layovers so little lounge time for me.

Yes, it is inside security.

To add, it will likely take close to an hour once you land till you get back into the airport. Depending where the gate is, its a long taxi and then he must clear security again. Once cleared he can head to the hotel.

I had a lengthy Doha layover in 2011. My last time through. and the lounge was busy enough that there wasn’t room to sprawl out. But I took a shower, eat and relaxed.

with your destination of Harare the stopover hotel is included with the cost of your ticket. Our agency arranges that with the airline, you will receive a voucher at check-in similar to a boarding pass. There will be instructions and signs in the airport to get to the “Hotel Desk”. We will send these details to you closer to departure so they are fresh in your mind come May.

Please know that some clients do not wish to stay offsite from the airport and elect to prepay for the in transit hotel for convenience, that is roughly the $400.

Additionally, others traveling to other destinations like South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique do not have a long enough layover to qualify for the complimentary hotel program. Harare and Lusaka are the two hunting destinations that fall in this program due to length of layover.

The free room is owned by Qatar airlines. They take you by shuttle understanding you have a connection and only so long. I’m not sure if I will leave the airport for a free room to shower and take a nap or not. I’m sure that layover would go so much faster lounging in a motel room. I have 9 hr layover also same itinerary most likely

There's no need to pay Oryx hotel for 5-6 hours because in reality this how much time you'll spend there in a 9hr layover if there are no delays...
Most people have no clue but there are FREE lay flat loungers at the Al Mourjan lounge and they have privacy seperations and a nightstand. They are located at the main level. Face the restrooms and turn right or ask where they are. Take a 5-6 hour nap, take a shower and after eating a bite walk to your gate and hunt another animal with the money you saved.

The challenge is.. if youre not traveling business class, access to Al Mourjan is about $125 per person (for the cost of 2 people getting into the lounge, you could have a room at the Oryx).. and the last few times Ive been through Doha the Al Mourjan lounge has been at full capacity, and they have even turned away business class travelers that didnt have reservations..

$125 is their advertised price.. they do usually have some sort of special or discount going on.. and the exchange rate plays a part as well... Ive seen it as cheap as about $75 per person... so MAYBE 2 people get in cheaper than the Oryx.. but.. then again.. maybe not..

IF youre flying business.. and IF they have room available in the lounge.. and IF one of those lay flat loungers are available when you get there.. they are indeed super comfortable...

but.. for the last few years getting one is a bit of a crap shoot..
