Delta Flights To Johannesburg

Great deal, looks like trending in a good direction. Now if freight costs will start coming down it would be great!

Hopefully the flights hold. I booked late 2020 for a 4/2021 trip, they all got canceled, we had to scramble and get flights they Qatar air, a three day each way excursion, thru multiple countries. I’m ok with a quick, cheap, indirect flight

We (4 of us) just recently booked (Round Trip) SFO to JNB Via ATL - Dept: Aug 19th. $756 Economy, then (2) of us upgraded to Comfort for $300 more. Probably not worth it, but I like the seat sizes and selections...

United is $868 today...

Some will tell you that it is not needed at all. I want to be covered in every way. As you know the 4457 is for articles taken abroad. With the 4457 you are proving you didn’t get it is SA. No one can accuse you of exporting it since you have the 4457. I also don’t want to raise any alarm bells by putting it on the rifle 4457. Out of sight, out of mind.
My list for traveling with a suppressor:
1. Separate 4457
2. Copy of tax stamp
3. put suppressor in gun case in a gear bag.
4. Don’t fly through NY or NJ.
Although I wont be flying with a can, I'm forced to fly out of either Boston or Jfk. I have never traveled with a rifle through either.

I’ve never seen those kind of prices on Delta. Never. They are having a terrible time filling those flights and I’m afraid early summer will still see cancellations. Maybe by August it will be better and you will be in the clear. If I was able to get coach round trip under or at $1000 I’d buy it.
the comfort plus is worth it to me as I am 6’ 2”. I’d like to try their premium economy but it is usually too expensive.

I've flown thru Boston and JFK with firearms several times. Most recently was Boston (Jun 2021), just after Qatar Air resumed service. No issues with firearms. We flew with Qatar Air and DID NOT check all the way to Bots. We checked just to Boston, claimed and rechecked bags and firearms directly with QR. No issues with security/TSA. Only issue was the QA agents lack of familiarity with the QA firearm check-in process and documentation. We had all the required forms pre-filled out and I had emailed everything required to QA security in Doha two weeks prior as required. Check-in agents still took over 2 hrs to process us. They were very friendly and very apologetic. I think we were the first ones thru Boston with firearms since the Rona lockdowns and QA resuming flts. The TSA firearm screening room was deep in the bowels of the terminal and took a long time to get approval all was good. We had a 4+ hr layover and good thing as we burned most of it.

Going thru JFK has some issues too. BEFORE the Rona and when SAA was flying from there, you were REQUIRED to claim and recheck firearms and luggage with ammo boxes and then recheck them directly with SAA. The NY Port Authority Police were called and they would require you to open the rifle case, show the firearm was unloaded. They'd require you to show an ID with your home address, 4457 and airline tickets. They'd record it all in a note pad. Then, you'd lock the case and hand it over to the SAA check-in agent, they'd put the routing tag on it and the Police would escort you and rifle case to the TSA screening room. Once TSA cleared it, you'd have to go back thru TSA security to your gate. You'd have to be sure you allowed several hours of time to make connections there too. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS CURRENTLY REQUIRED WITH ANY OTHER AIRLINE CONNECTING OUT OF JFK TO RSA SINCE SAA IS NO LONGER FLYING so be sure to ask the carriers.

As always great advice from the forum ! Thanx Philip!

Been there and done that at JFK as well. Can get it done but takes a long time.

I'm headed to Zambia in late July and think I will book Qatar again like I did last year to Botswana. I don't trust Delta and United to keep flying when COVID variants pop up. Qatar has a flight straight to Lusaka from Doha.

Mine from San Antonio, on Delta, is still tracking at the $984 that I paid a couple of week ago. I'm very pleased with that price.
I have to attend a conference in Orlando in March and roundtrip on Southwest is almost $600. Luckily, I am not paying for that one.

What app or website will show Delta flying on 3 days? Looking to book to Jbrg this week for late May and don't want to get trip cancelled(again) because Delta cancelled it's Atl to Jberg flight. Thanks
I use the Delta App

What dates? I’m trying to take the family in July and tickets are like 2,300.00
Download the Delta App. It’s super Easy! Or just use Google like I posted… enter in: Airports, dates and total travelers…

Consider your layer over times…

** I’m not a travel agent… but you may want to use one!

Flightaware shows flights. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL200. You can do searches for any flight. Outgoing (flight 200) Wed, Fri, & Sun. Returning (flight 201) Mon, Thur, & Sat.

I also got caught up in this mess. My outfitter wanted me to book certain days although it did not align with the days Delta was flying. Delta would let you book those dates, so I booked what the outfitter wanted at the beginning of January, for May but held off on booking my connecting flight with Airlink. Then about a month later here comes the alert that they've canceled my outgoing flight and rescheduled me a day later (a day they've been flying for months), moved my seats to where my wife and I were on separate rows and both in middle seats. I contacted my outfitter suggesting we go ahead and move my return out a day so we'd have the same number of hunt days and it aligned with the days Delta was flying. I figured it was only time until Delta also rescheduled it. The outfitter agreed and when I rescheduled the price fell by over 50%, wow! So, I've got a lot of e-credits now. On the seats it originally showed the plane full and would not let me adjust them. I messaged Delta and they said there was nothing they could do. I again checked later in the day and some seats had showed up letting at least get us back on the same row, although an aisle and window seat on a three-seat row.
