As the first phase of considering an African hunting adventure. Choice of fire arm comes to mind. My dilemma is friend of mine has a nice .375HH magnum which he will offer me a family price on(wink wink). Or I sell off a considerable amount of my firearm collection that’s collectible and can get me some money and then go shopping for a brand new sexy Rifle that I really want to make my mistress. It’s very expensive for me in the 8K range, but it’s one of those barrel changers But the largest cross-sectional bullet it shoots as a 9.3 x 62. And I figured as my second barrel for Africa I would get a 300 win mag which I don’t have at all. The sexy girl is that Krieghoff pump action semprio. The plain Jane 375 is an inter arms action built up by Whitworth and has a synthetic stock weighs 9 pounds drilled and tapped no bases or rings and no iron sites which means I would be ending up putting all that on there, whatever that will cost in addition to that the synthetic stock does not have a cheek piece And I fear that thing slapping me in the face gentle push (38# felt recoil) on the shoulder or not. I have a lever action savage 99 featherweight in 308 Winchester with the same set up and then smacks the hell out of my cheek every time I shoot it so to make this thread fun, give me your opinions, sexy chick or mashed potatoes. Incidentally, I did a little Wikipedia reading and found out that 9.3 x 62 used to be the minimum in Africa before the 375 was invented both Pondoro and Karamojo used it on elephants and had nothing bad to say about it. No, I’m not saying I want to use it for an elephant. I am a fan of value for the money and I’m looking at with those two calibers I could hunt other things in north and South America, New Zealand and Europe and pretty much do well with it after the purchase. With the 375 I could end up with a closet princess. It may be a little bit too much For North American game. I wouldn’t get as much use.
