I did some research on the Steiner Hunting Z scope, and found it was made by Leupold with Steiner components and glass. They sold for around $800 way back in the 1990's. So, I would assume the rifle and scope are probably over 20 years old. The scope is very clear and the adjustments seem very precise.
Overall the balance and handling of the whole package is very nice. The stock has a 14" LOP, which is perfect for me. The stock also has a very open grip, and I found the recoil to be less than my 416 rifles. I think the longer LOP helps with that, and maybe that mercury recoil reducer helps too. I'm sure if I ramped my loads up to 2300 fps I would feel a big difference, but since the 450 Nitro worked so well with a 480 gr bullet at 2050-2150 FPS, I figure, what's the use?
