Yes integral bases are far stronger than screws even over sized screws…. And strength is the primary reason we put all scope bases integral. However a beauty and cleanliness of the lines are another reason. Talley rings or dual front and rear dovetail (Burris/leupold) were a favorite of mine for this reason, super sleek lines and very low profilewell whilst it does dictate the style of rings to use, it also is a bloody sight stronger mounting (and slightly lower i'd imagine), than using some small screws to hold bases to an action
