Just the lighting. They’re brass, alright. Or at least that’s what Cutting Edge Bullets claims they are. I see no reason to doubt them. They make an excellent product. Just like the South African all-brass DZOMBO solids.

@Green Chile, I’m sure you’ve already made your mind up, but I wanted to add my experience with the NF CPS. I’ve only used them once on buff and I thought they were a pretty good balance between increased wound channel size while still having plenty of bone smashing power.
Below is a 400gr 416 Rigby CPS head pulled from a buff. Perfect expansion of the point + being pushed by all that solid copper = love it.

Yes, I have used that .416 400 gr CPS on ele, multiple buff, croc, eland, etc with excellent results. Broke both shoulders on a big zebra and lifted dust all the way down his back on impact. That bullet is still going somewhere out there.

I have not used the North Fork bullets yet, but plan to do so this year and next.

I've got a DR on order and I've asked them to regulate with NF bullets.

After doing a lot of research, I chose them for several reasons:
1.) I've yet to see a negative comment about performance on game from someone who has used them, in fact most reports I've seen are glowing and almost boringly consistent. Boringly excellent performance is just what I want in a DG bullet.

2.) I am attracted to the fact that they offer 4 different designs in most bullet weights. For a regulated DR, this means you can have a.) a Semi Spitzer (SS) for larger PG and for initial shot on buffalo b.) a scored ogive rapidly expanding Power Point (PP) for a cat load or lighter PG c.) a Cup Point Solid (CPS) for backing shots on buffalo d.) a Flat Point Solid (FPS) with a very modern angled meplat design for elephant or any situation that calls for max penetration. All of this in the same bullet weight which hopefully will shoot to POI at reasonable ranges in a DR.

3.) The CPS may offer a reasonable compromise should you be hunting in a lead-restricted environment.

4.) Perhaps most importantly: they are usually AVAILABLE.



I think if NF would offer loaded ammunition they could make quite an impact in this niche of the market. Meanwhile you can hand load or engage a custom loading service.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to gaining some real world experience with them, and appreciate all those who have shared helpful reports.

I also used it on a huge eland (top 10) on a Texas heart shot and crushed him on the run. Also crushed both shoulders on a zebra stallion for leopard bait. Great bullet.

Every day hunting is a good day but sometimes you just hit all of the marks. This is one of those hunts but in some unexpected ways. I spoke to the gents at North Fork before they sold to Joergen about the CPS. It was NOT developed for use on elephant. It was mostly developed as I recall because the regular FPS had almost what would be considered too much penetration in that they were usually exiting buffalo.

The idea was for the bullet to expand or rivet as mentioned here so that the vitals would eat up a chunk of the kinetic energy and not pass thru or at least if it did, it would exit much slower. What they found was it did just that, but I think also unexpectedly that the quasi hollow point design created even more damage to the organs than the more conventional bonded core.

Having said that, I watched a video of an elephant taken with a side brain shot. The bull dropped in its tracks and had a fountain of blood shooting about 3-4 feet high for minutes after the shot. It was a most impressive sight even if a bit gory. The gent who showed me this video nonetheless did not recommend the CPS for elephant, but definitely supported the FPS for such work.

I had a CPS loaded as my 2nd shot in my double this past summer while hunting buffalo. Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to use it, but it's my plan for next time.

What I found to be true, and based on recommendations is that if you find a load for the North Fork bonded core, use the same powder and you should be in the sweet spot at about 1-2 grains less powder than the bonded core load..

I would probably use a different solid next time on ele (I like to get different experiences) but there was no question as to its effectiveness. Big bull down in 50 yards on a heart shot. I've seen deer go further. As to big bodies like buff, eland, etc. the CPS was one of the best performing bullets that I or the PHs had seen. The PHs talked about it for weeks afterward.

Would these be good for giraffe out of a 9.3? Trying to decide if I'll get enough penetration with the CPS, or if I need the FPS instead.
