As a precautionary measure, until January 31, 2022, the Government of Canada is implementing enhanced border measures for all travellers who have been in the Southern Africa region — including South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Namibia— within the last 14 days before arriving in Canada.
Foreign nationals who have travelled in any of these countries within the previous 14 days will not be permitted entry into Canada.
Canadian citizens, permanent residents and people with status under the Indian Act, regardless of their vaccination status or having had a previous history of testing positive for COVID-19, who have been in these countries in the previous 14 days will be subject to enhanced testing, screening, and quarantine measures.
These individuals will be required to obtain, within 72 hours of departure, a valid negative COVID-19 molecular test in a third country before continuing their journey to Canada. Upon arrival to Canada, regardless of their vaccination status or having had a previous history of testing positive for COVID-19, they will subject to immediate arrival testing. All travellers will also be required to complete a test on day 8 after arrival and quarantine for 14 days
All travellers will be referred to Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) officials to ensure they have a suitable quarantine plan. Those arriving by air will be required to stay in a designated quarantine facility while they await their arrival test result. They will not be permitted onward travel until their quarantine plan has been approved and they have received a negative arrival test result.
Those arriving by land may be allowed to proceed directly to their suitable isolation location. If they do not have a suitable plan — where they will not have contact with anyone they haven’t travelled with — or do not have private transportation to their place of quarantine, they will be directed to stay at a designated quarantine facility
There will be increased scrutiny of quarantine plans for travellers from these countries and rigorous monitoring to ensure travellers are complying with quarantine measures. Further, travellers, regardless of their vaccination status or having had a previous history of testing positive for COVID-19, who have entered Canada from these countries in the past 14 days will be contacted and directed to be tested and to quarantine while they wait for the results of those tests. There are no exemptions specifically provided for in these new requirements.
The Government of Canada advises Canadians to avoid travelling to countries in this region and will continue to monitor the situation to inform current or future actions.
Canada continues to maintain pre-entry molecular testing for vaccinated and unvaccinated international travellers arriving from any country to reduce the risk of importation of COVID-19 including variants. PHAC has also been monitoring case data, through mandatory randomized testing upon entry into Canada.
The Government of Canada will continue to assess the evolving situation and adjust border measures as required. While the impact of all variants continues to be monitored in Canada, vaccination, in combination with public health and individual measures, is working to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and its variants.

I really wish we could, however, I worked my whole life to retire and travel the world. Now I’ve jumped through all the hoops, downloaded the apps, got the f*cking jab, quarantined myself 3 times and it’s still not enough! I’m asking what will be enough?

I was in favour of the restrictions last year but now it's just stupid. People doing dumb shit like not practicing basic hygiene even after eating or using the restroom is what spreads this stuff. If you get the vaccine (if available) and don't act stupid then you'll probably be fine.

This pandemic has shown how dirty the average person really is. Adults with the minds of children is what keeps this virus from dying. How is that me and members of my family along with friends, have acted normally with basic safety precautions like wearing a mask, yet still haven't got the virus?

What the hell are people doing to get sick? Retardation causes hard times for everyone and I'm frankly tired of just accepting it.

Other than the occasional earnest looking twenty or thirty something urban female, virtually no one is wearing a mask in my area and hasn't for the last six-eight months. Our infection and hospitalizations are low and falling. I don't suspect many of them will embrace the Omicron terror either.

Be aware that Omicron is not necessarily bad in the long run. A highly contagious strain that ran thru all of the World's population, was of low virulence, and conveyed cross-strain immunity, would put this pandemic at an end. We don't know yet. Here's hoping........................FWB

I can't cut and paste the comments of the chair of the South African Medical Association but she says it causes "mild disease" and they have not seen the variant in anyone who has been vaccinated.

I still say all part of the plan. Maybe vaccinated will start waking up when they are at their docs office getting their 10, 11, 12 shot. At least some may start asking questions, right now Canada's 90% are lemmings. Do people really believe the "science" or that we will stop Covid? I believe it was made and set upon the world, I only want to know "for what end purpose"?

So glad we ignored most scare tactics and had our 2021 summer safari. Non of us vaxed and we all got Covid, 14 days added in Airport Hotel. Made our stay in Africa 30 days longer. For my sisters felt like a 2 day flu, I spent night in SA emergency ward with Pneumonia, (I have had 4 times before) that is until I or insurance company would not provide $25K deposit, then escorted out of hospital. Round of antibiotics and vitamins, plus oxygen machine from Sunrock Guest House, fights with Ethiopian Air, Air France and KLM had their own return to Canada rules, would not let us board day of flights, even with all required paperwork. Finally after a call from our embassy Ethiopian returned us to Canada. Turned out I had lung embolisms not pneumonia. My Veterans travel and Covid insurance has paid back all costs incurred.

So 2 months later would I do again. DAM RIGHT. If your afraid, get vaxed and hide. I want to live my life, no idea how short or long it is. Bets there will be another "variant" after this new scare allows Govs to do as they please. Until citizens say NO this repeat ongoing revolving crap will be the new world order.

Or get vaxxed and have your Safari without complications. My 23 days in Africa turned into... 23 days.

I was also vaxxed against Hep. A & B (immune from previous vaccinations years ago), Tetanus, Typhoid, etc., etc. I also took Malaria pills.

It is a personal choice to get vaccinated. You were fine with the negative consequences of getting Covid. I am not, and neither are a lot of people as one does not know the health impact. One could have a mild case with almost no symptoms or one could die. Vaccines have proven effective in reducing the risk of infection AND reducing the effect of the virus on the body.
