nothing like being packed in a densely populated city during a pandemic. note the date on the picture

I have a daughter that lives and works in Manhattan. She is an administrator for a large hospital system. She rides the subway to and from work each day and says the subways are pretty empty, even at rush hour.

So I question the validity of the photo with the crowd. Not saying it isn't happening, but I do question it.

I don't get Trump. On one hand he's condemning 3M and on the other hand he does exactly what he's criticizing them for.

Patience. Its like Alaska shutting down spring bear season and then the next day allowing it to be open for resident hunters. Which I agree with.

Let's give them time breathe and think.

Good Days will outnumber bad days! (y)(y)(y)

It would certainly seem to be crazy given the circumstance. I hope it is pure BS.

Not cool at all.

The depth of the short sightedness............

What's next: Canadian government banning Canadian Health Care workers from crossing the border into the US daily to help in US hospitals.
Sometimes I feel that Trump takes advice from the wrong people in his administration, or maybe he's not thinking things out very well? Maybe both?

Stopping and thinking. Can you send a huge dose of that to Washington DC.

Make sure it is a healthy one, there appear to be lots of folks needing it in those white buildings. All those white buildings.

I don't know who is pulling the strings, but someone needs to move beyond the next press conference and stop focusing on making "appearances".
It is scary to watch someone in that position being so reactive.

Updated to residents only, no out of state hunters.

Yes, updated today. Alaska residents only and and no travel between communities

OTTAWA -- Manufacturing giant 3M says the White House has requested it cease exports of U.S. made N95 face masks to Canada.

"The Administration also requested that 3M cease exporting respirators that we currently manufacture in the United States to the Canadian and Latin American markets. There are, however, significant humanitarian implications of ceasing respirator supplies to healthcare workers in Canada and Latin America, where we are a critical supplier of respirators," 3M said in a statement released Friday.

The statement comes hours after U.S. President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act requiring companies to prioritize the production of masks and ventilators to fight the spread of COVID-19.

"We anticipate issuing more orders under the Defense Protection Act in the very near future, in addition to the one that I just signed against 3M for face masks," said Trump on Thursday evening.

But 3M warns that ceasing those exports could cause blowback.

"Ceasing all export of respirators produced in the United States would likely cause other countries to retaliate and do the same, as some have already done. If that were to occur, the net number of respirators being made available to the United States would actually decrease. That is the opposite of what we and the Administration, on behalf of the American people, both seek."

3M in response said it continues to "act on reports of price gouging and unauthorized reselling related to 3M respirators. This activity is unethical and illegal. We are working with the U.S. Attorney General and attorneys general of every state, making it clear that 3M has not and will not raise prices for respirators and offering our assistance in the fight."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that, while Canada and the U.S. are working closely on sharing best practices and ensuring health-care workers on either side of the border get the supplies they need, there are no plans to enforce a bilateral trade agreement on personal protective equipment.

The prime minister’s inner circle, including Deputy Prime Minster Chrystia Freeland has strongly opposed the White House proposal to put U.S. military along the border to mitigate the international spread.

Obviously I don't know the details on this but I can tell you what I read yesterday. A state, I think it was either Florida or Louisiana had a contract dating back to February with 3M for various items. If I understand it correct, 3M pushed that state further down the queue to sell those same items to foreign entities for more money. The state was pissed and contacted the federal government. This is what angered the administration and caused the action.

No it's Breathe and Think. That means you have to take in some oxygen and release some carbon dioxide. Then the plants have to take in some carbon dioxide and release some oxygen. Its the time and refreshing of the oxygen to the brain that helps in the thinking process.

Back in less PC days you accomplished this by smoking a cigarette.:sneaky:

I have generally supported Trump’s actions, but this ban on the export of masks to Canada is ridiculous. He is getting bad advice and then bragging about an insane decision.

The shortage of supplies and hospital rooms just shows me the health care in this country isn't really all that great. The insurance companies haven't did a very good job of running it.

It does prompt Canadians into understanding how important industry is to us.

If 3M was "profiteering" perhaps the proper recommendation was to have the newly formed Federal Task Force investigate the problem.

I agree that it will cause some serious issues down the road, but you have to remember that according to the states and the ones in charge there, they don't have the supplies needed. So taking a more measured approach and allowing other countries to stock up for when it gets bad there and allowing places like New York where it is already worse than the countries trying to stock up to sit in a queue is just as bad optically and morally. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Trump is going off the America first thinking that he's always had so it's not much of a surprise that this decision was made.

Other than two hospitals in the Brooklyn/Queens area, one being Elmhurst, please tell me any other hospital in America with room shortage as of yesterday?

Earlier this week the USNS Comfort docked in Manhattan. They have 1,000 beds, yesterday only 20 were being used. The hospital set up in Central Park has room for 68 patients. The medical staff are twiddling their thumbs with zero patients as of yesterday. These hospitals are for non virus cases.

Some hospitals throughout America that have stopped elective surgeries due to government pressure, and now have no patients. They are not giving medical personnel hours because they are running out of money since they are empty! America is no where close to a situation where they have a shortage of hospital beds. In fact America has more ICU beds per capita than any other country in the world. America doesn't have as many hospital beds per capita as some countries because America does most surgeries these days in out patient surgery centers, while the rest of the world still have hospitals for surgeries. At some point, if the pandemic continues to grow geometrically, America will run out of hospital beds. This will not be due to not having enough beds, but from having a once in 100 year bug.

There are shortages of supplies in some areas. This is partly because states didn't refill their inventory after the 2009 SARS outbreak. There is screaming for supplies everywhere because no one wants to be caught short. Who can afford to set on inventory that slowly disintegrates for a once in 100 year outbreak.

The mainstream media did a pathetic job of covering the Wuhan virus until the end of February. Then liberals and the MSM went into panic mode. The conservatives fought back at the MSM by stupidly saying the virus was nothing. In reality, the virus is deadly serious, but nothing to panic about for most of the population. Quoting lines that come from the MSM doesn't do anybody any good.

The world would be a better place if the MSM (Fox included) was ignored and people searched for the real truth, which is readily available if you just look for it.

PS: Insurance companies have nothing to do with running inventory or hospitals.

September 1988 it's Friday Night in Texas and I am watching the Plano Wildcats in their season opener. Shortly after the opening kickoff an individual behind me started yelling at the coach. He was yelling at him to throw the football. He was yelling that the coach was stupid. He had a voice that Marine Corps Drill Instructor could appreciate. He continued his rant until half time. At half time he left right after a very loud and obscene evaluation of the coach's game plan.

The rest of the story: The Plano Wildcats and their head coach Tommy Kimbrough were in the middle of a 29 game winning streak. They were competing for 3 state titles in a row. At half time Plano was ahead 14-0. Plano won the game 35-3.

Don't be that guy.

I really feel for you guys. NAFTA made it too easy for Canada to become a broker instead of a producer. Then the green lobby really emasculated your heavy industry.

Trudeau and Freeland thought they had a back room deal with the US Chamber of Commerce and Pelosi/House. They didn't think Trump could kill NAFTA and they weren't properly engaged in the early negotiations of USMCA. Freeland realized what was happening literally in the last four days. I don't know how Canada fared, I haven't read USMCA but I can't believe it is as advantageous to Canada as it would have been if she was seriously engaged throughout the entire negotiations.

Hopefully Canada can rebuild much of it's manufacturing base. Of the North American countries, Canada certainly has the toughest road to hoe with USMCA.

Trump twitter post from yesterday. Have a feeling someone will be looking at the situation.

We hit 3M hard today after seeing what they were doing with their Masks. “P Act” all the way. Big surprise to many in government as to what they were doing - will have a big price to pay!

Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
