COVID-19 Coronavirus UPDATES, BANS, CLOSURES, ADVISORY, etc.

Well here they go again....seems most countries are now basically police states.....didn't know whether to put this here or in politics thread.....governments have destroyed their economies...and successful businesses...and jobs and peoples lives....so the only way to stop any shit coming back their way is to keep the scaremongering going....and destroy even more businesses and livelihoods.....and fk listening to any experts who dont say what's expected, but put out different perspectives....even though they are eminent experts in their fields....unbelievable

Absolutely right.

In Canada yesterday our Chief Public Health Officer said we were not yet in the "second wave" and if we didn't let down our guard, we wouldn't be. Later in the day, our Prime Minister announced ("follow the science" be damned, apparently) that the second wave was well under way, and the Government's emergency powers would have to be extended.

Governments, at least in the West, have gotten a taste for virtually unlimited power to direct the lives of citizens and virtually unlimited spending. Having tasted it, they seem to have decided they don't want this to end.

So rather than learning to live with COVID, we are going to have to learn to live, it seems, with being told what to, when to do it, and how to do it, for the foreseeable future.

It's been a long held dream of liberal governments, at least in Canada, to have people reliant on government, rather than on themselves. If you allow people to rely on themselves, you get different outcomes, depending on the choices people make, or are able to make. If everyone relies on government, government can dictate the same outcomes for all of us.

You asked, Mike, about whether your post properly belonged here or in the Politics thread. I think COVID has now ceased to be much of a medical issue and it has transmogrified into a political issue. So it doesn't much matter which thread you posted in - it's all politics now.

Yeah...unfortunately correct in everything you say.....depressing state of affairs for the future...if they want to do a lockdown now at any time because of some bullshit reason ...no problem as its been accepted this time around and people will roll over and obey.....so very depressing

The provinces are asking for $ 28 Billion from the feds. If I could get that kind of extra cash, I would keep the the pandemic measures in place too!

@Hank2211 Speaking of the second wave.....

I'm surprised one of these megalomaniacs yet hasn't been recalled, or otherwise removed.

All one needs to do here in the U.S. is watch Biden's campaign commercials. His tone and what he says are geared to those with low mental horsepower, maturity, education and a willingness to believe anything.

And now, back to COVID-19 related stuff . . . !

I hope this doesn't create an aneurism or two among the "we are all going to die!" crowd. It would be a shame to lose them that way after they have been certain so long that Covid would kill them. But, Florida just announced it is lifting the last statewide Covid restrictions. City and county governments still have a little authority, but not to close businesses.

What happened to the JF Kennedy Democrats? Must have all died.
Did someone spike the water systems in all the Democrat controlled cities?

When you add Uncle Joe's 200 million covid deaths to his 150 million gun deaths that takes care of just about every body in the country.

Interesting chart and article with some figures on how this is causing havoc with critical every day hospital treatments and immunization world wide....going to cause way more deaths than the virus

When the history of this government generated panic is finally written, I suggest that it will not be kind to those who propagated the panic and killed economies as well as causing the deaths of so many non-COVID sufferers.

That assumes, of course, that anyone will still have the freedom to write an unbiased history and have it published.

The Government in Canada is suggesting that it may have to control the dissemination of "mis-information" reeling to COVID. Mis-information is anything that doesn't agree with the official line. The excuse for doing this is, of course, to protect us (the sheep) from the harm that being exposed to conflicting opinions might cause.

I am old enough to recall a time when it was believed that the "free marketplace of ideas" was the best place for the truth to emerge. Now, we have one source of truth, and it's the Government.

@Hank2211 Unfortunately what you wrote is totally accurate, yet too many sheep have their heads buried in the sand.
Or maybe just shoved up their ...

Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
