Closest kill

Warthog 2m with my CZ75 while waiting under a shady tree for the recovery vehicle to come and load up another animal.
There is also the campfire story of a guy who once took an impala in the Okavango with a speargun.

Do you think we could find a .455 Webley in OZ to keep the “tunnel hunt” true to the original adventure? @Skinnersblade won’t need any bullets as he’ll have the tomahawk. Ha! Ha!
I’ve got both a webley and a tomahawk all that’s left is for you to arrange transportation for @Wyatt Smith and I. Get us good seats I think they’ll be enough confined spaces on the trip without being cramped on the plane.

I killed a whitetail buck with an 1860 Army cap and ball revolver at damn near contact range. His fur was burnt from the muzzle blast. Something like about 2 feet or so. Heavy brush and pure luck combined to put me in that situation.

I have shot numerous squirell at less that 3 feet with slingshots if that counts.

It all counts up close! Spears, knives, bayonets, tomahawks, spearguns and now slingshots. Waiting for a blowgun story. Ha! Ha!

Mosquito on my forehead. Almost smack center between my eyes. Some blood involved!
My wife's would be the Tetsee Fly on our PH's arm! Boy was he surprised. Fortunately he didn't drive off the 2 track in surprise. Great introduction and first day.

Don’t forget the venerable tomato stake you’ve got to be pretty close to get one of those to be dangerous.

A tomato stake is the proper weapon for hunting killer tomatoes.

I do have a blowgun story! Back at my old barn some Of my friends and I were sitting around having some adult libations one evening and the mice were running along the walls, well I pulled out the blowgun that I had recently acquired and we proceeded to attempt to take out the mice, (rather unsuccessfully I might add), when I finally cornered one and got him right between the eyes, I think it was around 10 feet, the inside of the barn looked like a porcupine had sidled through with all the darts that had missed sticking out of the walls, I had acquired the blowgun because my wife said I couldn’t shoot the .22 in the barn because of the holes it was making in the siding. I won’t tell the story of when I got charged by a red squirrel while on the roof and took him out at close range (along with a shingle or two) with my tc contender with .410 bbl.

Slingshot spear fishing in Belize back in July. The guide got the barracuda. Last fish of the day. I did account for two of the spiny lobsters. Had a great lunch that day!
Spear was maybe 6 feet long. Guessing the tubing extended the range 3 feet at best. All was taken at less then 10 feet.
The swells were not bad that day. I lost track of the guide and made my way back to the boat. It had moved off from me. Climbed aboard pretty tired out to see blood on the deck. Then I saw the barracuda. Guide had headshot it and the Captain took boat over to help.

You'll still need a Go Pro camera and I'm thinking baggage class for the flight. They'll be plenty of room in the cargo hold and a bottle to piss in. But, I'll have to figure out how to set up a "GO HUNT ME" fund here to pay for it all until the royalties from the You Tube video kick in. Remember, I said I would "pitch in", not pay for this fiasco. Ha! Ha!

Feral Hogs at kicking distance in the tall grass with a shotgun

Blackbear at six paces. Spot and stalk with a .450 Marlin. Close enough to have mud from the bank behind him end up on my face.

Africa:
Brain shot on a wounded leopard at four meters, by using a Laurona 12 Gauge ( 3 “ Magnum ) boxlock ejector over & under loaded with Federal Premium 3 “ Magnum copper plated ten pellet OOO buck shells. First shot was at ten meters ,but the pellets had failed to penetrate the skull ( to reach the brain ) or the chest muscles ( to reach the heart ).

Asia:
Heart shot on a bison at 15 feet, by using a .375 Holland & Holland Magnum pre war bull barrel Winchester Model 70 loaded with Winchester Super Speed 300 Gr flat nosed copper jacketed FMJ solids.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
