Bought both of my boys hardback copies each of

Death in the Long Grass
Green Hills of Africa
The Perfect Shot 2
Horn of the Hunter

Not that they need a lot of encouragement to want to go to Africa, but I'm planning on creating addiction in my family.

Those are great books. I don't care what others say about Capstick...I remember reading his books in the public school library and getting an itch for Africa. I would also highly recommend Peter Flack's "Heart of an African Hunter". He writes a good bit about getting his son started hunting and also about how he got started hunting as a young boy. He covers everything from Big 5 to Tiny 10 and is an excellent writer.

Death in the Long Grass was an amazing book. I don't believe the contrary thoughts on him.

I don't have an opinion on what was true or fiction or care about anyone else's opinion on it. I do KNOW he inspired a lot of young people to experience Africa and I appreciate that part of who he was. I don't want to distract from this topic and just wanted to say kudos on inspiring your family to hunt!

Throw Robert Ruark’s Lost Classics in there at some point. It contains his article “Suicide Made Easy” which you can also find online. That single article did more to make me want to hunt buffalo than everything else I read combined.

love it. Great choices. And getting the next generation to read a real life book is priceless.
I enjoyed Death in the Long grass IMMENSELY.

I’m not a big reader of books.

Join them up here and let the enablers do the talking.

Also I suggest watching The Ghost and The Darkness.

All of those things have the potential encourage your boys to hunt Africa if they haven’t already shown interest from your adventures.

Great gifts! Those books will definitely foster interest in hunting Africa. I also don’t care if Capstick embellished, he tells a great story that is delightfully entertaining.

You should also watch “in the blood” a safari documentary. It is really a nice 90 min show about kids learning to hunt in africa.

My son came up with the idea to hunt Africa at age 11. I took him at age 12. My vegetarian daughter went with us later at age 17 and learned to love hunting and become a quite proficient huntress.

Getting your kids into hunting with you will make lifetime family memories and adventures that are much more valuable than toys. And the kids really grow up when they have that experience.

“In the blood” is one of my all time favorite hunting films very unique and different

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
