Bought both of my boys hardback copies each of

Death in the Long Grass
Green Hills of Africa
The Perfect Shot 2
Horn of the Hunter

Not that they need a lot of encouragement to want to go to Africa, but I'm planning on creating addiction in my family.

Passing on addiction…. Disgusting haha
Just order myself Death in a lonely land

Those are great books. I don't care what others say about Capstick...I remember reading his books in the public school library and getting an itch for Africa. I would also highly recommend Peter Flack's "Heart of an African Hunter". He writes a good bit about getting his son started hunting and also about how he got started hunting as a young boy. He covers everything from Big 5 to Tiny 10 and is an excellent writer.

Death in the Long Grass was an amazing book. I don't believe the contrary thoughts on him.

I don't have an opinion on what was true or fiction or care about anyone else's opinion on it. I do KNOW he inspired a lot of young people to experience Africa and I appreciate that part of who he was. I don't want to distract from this topic and just wanted to say kudos on inspiring your family to hunt!

Throw Robert Ruark’s Lost Classics in there at some point. It contains his article “Suicide Made Easy” which you can also find online. That single article did more to make me want to hunt buffalo than everything else I read combined.

love it. Great choices. And getting the next generation to read a real life book is priceless.
I enjoyed Death in the Long grass IMMENSELY.

I’m not a big reader of books.

Join them up here and let the enablers do the talking.

Also I suggest watching The Ghost and The Darkness.

All of those things have the potential encourage your boys to hunt Africa if they haven’t already shown interest from your adventures.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
