Change of plans anyone?

Starting to wonder about the trip I have planned for my wife and myself. We are scheduled to head out to South Dakota the first week of June for the Volksmarch up Crazy Horse Monument then head over to Wyoming, visit some friends and hang out for a week and take the Outlaw Canyon tour. My wife told me last night that there's always next year but I'm just not that easy going, I don't give up on things quite that easily.

Just my opinion....if anyone is thinking a June, July hunt in Africa is going to happen, you are living in a different world than me. This virus situation is not going away in two months...has not apexed yet anywhere in the US and not expected to for at least 14 to 30 days....but a different note...sit down, give some thought to any economic recovery...or the long term effect that a possible 30% unemployment means going forward, then throw inflation into the mix, I see the worst ahead and pray that I am wrong. Never in any fictional scenario did we ever believe it could come to us, well we were wrong...it is here and just getting started..expect the worst, but pray for the best outcome...

Unfortunately I'm afraid you are going to be correct. The charts put up during the president's briefing show even in the best scenarios, we are just getting into this and have a long to go.

As for the economy, it's already a whole different World.

I'm going to stay and hunt locally this year. I was going to SD, for pheasant and deer in Nov. Wife has been out of work for two weeks now, and who knows for how much longer. Due to the economic impact all this has and will cause, I'll just hunt here in GA. Now that we are no longer in self quarantine, I'm going out this weekend to chase Mr. Tom, and since I'll be in the woods I'll be practicing social distancing.

Areaonereal, I am right there with ya. Was curious if I was the only one thinking this way. I think anything this year is not very promising especially not knowing what kind of restrictions will be in place. Have a great evening everyone.

It did occur to me that if my family Safari can’t happen in June, and then later in the year doesn’t work for the whole family... maybe I should just sneak over to Namibia in August or September and burn the credit I have, then rebook in 2021?
I need a hunting goal on the calendar to dream about! Pushing the pause button on dreams is hard for all of us.

The first year since 2011 thar I didn’t plan to go to Africa, planning to drive to Tukteyuktuk on the Artic Ocean in June, hope that works out. September going to Florida to hunt/fish a Alligator.

Supposed to go to Russia April 27 for Brown Bear, that is not happening. Booked for Africa in August hunting night critters. Staying hopeful! The only hunt I am sure of is my Mountain Lion hunt in December.

I was to leave 2 weeks from today to South Africa. Finally, South African Airways said people could rebook their tickets through early 2022. So I am rebooked for next April. I am sad our local SCI banquet had to be canceled. Frustrating, but, it is what it is!!!

Must admit I'm not much of a reader, just never had the time, always worked 2 or 3 jobs to make extra cash to use for hunting trips and taxidermy bills. Pretty much was either working, sleeping or hunting for the last 35 years or so. I checked out Mr. C.J. Box, his books do sound interesting. If life ever slows down a bit I'll check one out. Thanks!

Was to be leaving on this coming Monday. Talked with outfitter and we are penciled in for August. Talked with Lori last night. Delta refund is in the works. Have to wait until 4/16 to find out about Airlink flight Rental car to get us too and from Logan Airport has been cancelled. Waiting to hear from travel insurance about date change now. That’s the last thing I am waiting on. Heard today that MA may be closing down ALL construction, no start up dated even mentioned. Not sure if I will be working Monday or not.

Mid May hunt in the Eastern Cape doesn't look like it'll happen. Qatar cancelled flights to RSA and with winter approaching, who knows how long the country will be closed to U.S. citizens. That and who's prepared to be locked up for fourteen days upon return?

I was scheduled to be in the Eastern Cape at the end of September but at the start of March I hit a patch of ice and fell busting up a once repaired right shoulder, nothing broken but from the MRI my suprarspinatus tendon is torn through for the second time along with minor tearing of the infraspinatus. Due to the corona Virus pandemic all elective surgeries have been cancelled along with the rehab clinics. So here I sit watching it snow in -20c weather not knowing whether I can even get this repaired in time for our November rifle season. I may have to learn to shoot left handed. I guess it could be a lot worse I could be hooked up to a ventilator or be watching a loved one die from this virus. Stay safe everyone.

Hunting buff with Marius at KMG in the first week of August. At this stage I'm still planning as if I'm going, until I get told otherwise. Australia has various stages of restrictions but isn't hit too hard at this stage (fingers crossed) compared to the world stage. We shall see...

Got a double Buffalo hunt for July in Zimbabwe. Deposit and air fares paid in Nov last year. It is not looking good and the Aus dollar is worth about the same as a Zim dollar at the moment.

I’m from South Dakota. Yesterday our governor announced that we have flattened the curve with the virus. The new projections for us are to be hitting peak infections in late July or early August. If it happens like that.....

Let’s hear some opinions on this because I am probably not the only person wondering this and this is my first guided hunt ever. How soon is too early to be talking to your outfitter about rescheduling? I don’t want to offend him by making him think I am giving up to early but how long do you really wait to start the discussion if your trip is June/July timeframe? I suppose a lot may also depend on the airlines. I don’t know that they are cancelling that far out yet?

What airline?
If it is June/July I would plan on proceeding. Remember these bugs are not much of a problem in summer months. I understand your dilemma but I would personally just wait a bit to reschedule.
