Canada's proposed new gun laws...

So,
I have Canadian friends, and have heard the silliness that abounds.

What I don't know, is if anything can be done to stop this? Legislators, PM's, represneaitives? I'm just not smart enough on Canada Politics, but I find it hard to believe the PM can "recommend" something, and it's automatically assumed a "law"?!?

Sadly this just reinforces the (my) conclusion that trying to understand or rationalise these gun control measures is a pointless, fruitless task. There is no solid logic - this is 100% pure political BS.

I ask myself what banning handguns does, assuming the US school shootings generated some momentum for this change....
- handguns may be involved in those shootings but the big massacres usually involve semi-auto long guns from what I can gather. ANY shooting of innocents is despicable and abhorrent but I fail to see what the handgun ban does to stop this?
- given that handguns are best suited of all firearms for personal carry, banning them means an unarmed citizenry by and large. How does an unarmed citizenry stand up to armed criminals in the absence of police? Canada seemed like a mighty large place to cover with policemen all the times I've been there. A legal handgun-carrying citizen could take down a would-be school shooter - but that option is now out of the window in Canada. Maybe handgun carry is not legal already in Canada in which case my point is moot.

And reducing the magazine capacity.... my brain cells want to self combust. All this does is extend the reloading time. How does this solve crime or prevent atrocities? Does Trudeau think that 5 casualties is ok but 6 is one too many? FFS the absurdities just roll on.

In South Africa we have already learned the maxim "You get the government you deserve" Sorry Canada.

Here in South Africa within two days of the latest "mass shooting" in the USA there were billboards up with " What about South Africas gun deaths " , the media jumped on the badwagon very quickly .
In SA we have the same mentality by some and no one in politics or the media says much about our police and army that have basically collapsed , lose or steal their own firearms , are involved in violent crime , are unable to help the public in emergencies , etc . We have a seven times per capita higher murder rate than the USA , and guess what , it is not legal licensed firearm owners committing the murders but we are the villains.
If we were disarmed in SA we would be like lambs to the slaughter as our violent criminals ( like most ) dont care about legislation or police , and just like many governments ours is also doing their best to disarm legal , law abiding firearm owners .

As it is there are no armed Canadians. Handgun have been registered here since the second world war, and not legal to carry open or concealed or hunt with. Just pandering to the huddled, frightened mask wearing liberals, for votes.
Even if they ban all firearms, it won’t stop the sick minded from doing evil. Anyone with grade 9 shop class could build you a gun, and grade 9 science could make gun powder. I guess they think the Jennie will fit back in the bottle.
Anyone with a car can do far more damage watching for school to let out. None of the proposed measures, other than hardening schools and dealing with bullying/mental health, will have any impact. Biden says he doesn't want to harden schools but he is surrounded by armed guards and we have TSA. If simply banning guns worked, we could get rid of both

The handguns are leaving the stores at a reckless pace today. the legislation sure had the desired effect. :A Samurai:
Maybe Trudeau's newest political tactic is negative psychology....

- Ban guns to stimulate sales!

- Decriminalise hard drug possession and use to kill the drugs market!

Truth is stranger than fiction!

I am a Canadian citizen and a fellow firearms enthusiast. The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police have made a statement saying they do not support this legislation. They say it will not do a thing to reduce the criminal use of firearms whatsoever and that it only increases the burden on law abiding Canadian firearms owners.

Of course.
This political grand standing is to appease the socialist pigs!!!

To all on this thread
It has been pointed out to me that by putting an angry emoji on a comment it may be construed as me being pissed off at the person.
In this case that is totally wrong, I'm pissed off with what Canada is doing to law abiding gun owners. The things people are saying is correct and it pisses me off that a government can get away with such bullshit.
I hope no one was offended by my angry faces
Bob

Agreed

Generally party members do as instructed by their leaders. And in our case, our current minority government has made a pseudo coalition with the next party to the left of them, ensuring enough votes to pass the bill once that time comes.

The only hope from that point is that the Senate kicks it back.

Well another mass shouting in USA
Tulsa -medical Center
What the hell is going on ??

It is tragic and alarming. As a society we refuse to deal with the real problem and turn gun ownership into a political football. My advice, be smart and be prepared to protect yourself and your loved ones. Don’t let the bastards infringe on your ability to do so!

With that five round magazine capacity I guess my CZ 550 would be banned. It will hold six rounds of 458 Lott plus one in the barrel

Oh my
A potential criminal under the new laws

When oz bought back semi autos from law biding citizens (by compulsion) the Law turned many people into criminals

A good honest person like yourself, now deemed to be a Criminal because of six cartridges in magazine

Hope all goes well for you
So 5 is ok but 6 is criminal what next ??

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
