Bullet weight for 9.3x62

@264
Outstanding pictures and performance with the TSX 250 gr 9,3s.
What is your muzzle velocity?

@C. W. Richter
What load were you using to get 2,440fps with the 300gn out of the 338-06. That's one hell ove a load.
I'm hoping to get 2,300fps with the 310gn Woodleigh and 2,500 with the 275gn.
Bob
You are correct! Over book pressure IMR4350 (but shared by an old timer that sold me the dusty boxes of bullets-in a modern, 9-lug Wby V action, SS bbl, etc.-again, NO issues whatsoever.)...i'll look up the charge-the dk recesses say 56ish. No signs of excessive pressure, grouped well, went with it! I assume you mean the 35W-even more avail. powder space there due to the shorter bullets. I'll see what i can find for the heavyweights.

i see the 280's were 2350ish, so similar. I'm guessing the 35 reloader estimated (i.e. 2300-2400) based upon other chronographed loads, but mine was chronographed, so more exacting. I see no reason the 35W can't at least do same, but it's going to be at the most max pressure you can achieve in these (underfilled-way under 100% capacity cartridges, using huge for caliber slugs.) Idk if you can see the View link, but there's a good story there that brought back memories. Why I developed this load. Big Eland (at a time when I didn't yet have a bigger 338 or 375.)

I run the 250 gr TSX out of my 93x62 They work great on buff. A bit hard and over kill on most other game. Even scrubbers even though they kill well.
The woodleigh 232's are a very versatile pill and are going to be my all round medium game pill when I run out of 190 gr ACP's These have proven to be very versatile and have worked well on game up to buff for me. Ive included pics of 9.3 pills from my 9.3x74 which has similar performance to the 9.3x62 Heres the pics cheers mick.

Looks like the Woodleigh is the most consistent. Great bullets

The woodleighs are consistent but don't get the penetration of the barnes or the ACP's. ACP's lose there petals but work well on buff. The TSX is the most consistent and reliable. The one in the pic that hasn't opened was a second shot at 140m , My first bull with the 93x74. First shot at 70m was good but unsure so gave him a second. Entered near hip on the run and stopped behind the shoulder on the off side No hard bone hit and didn't open up. Failure ?
Tried plenty of combinations and would be happy with the 286 TSX or 270 ACP. 286 hydro also a great choice in the 74.
In the 93x62 I like the 250 TSX for buff also great performance from the 232 Hydro.
The 190 ACP is also a good performer, but hard on, everything else. Hoping to get a stag this season with them. When they run out it will be the 232 PPSN for sambar here.
The 286gr TSX and hydro take up a lot of case capacity(93x62) with there length so trying the 250's and 232 hydro for buff bulls. The 232 hydro works great.........
See what the next few months bring. Cheers Mick

Around 2500fps, not max loads as temps high where Im hunting.
Good to know.
I have a supply of the Tipped TTSX 250s that would probably open a little faster for plains game. Unfortunately I haven't worked with them as yet, and due to heart surgery three weeks ago, not sure when I will.

It does not need to be equal to a 9.3 anything, it needs to equal .458 caliber.......... Something that actually gets Bovine attentions...........

Hell I have a 223 bullet I would love to put in the brain pan of a few bovine just for fun....... but that don't make 223 a Bovine cartridge/bullet..............

Have fun on your scrub bull hunt, anything Bovine is GOOD........ I have shot a few RedSkins in my days..... always good fun.

Where I used to shoot bovines with Paul they referred to them as RedSkins...... and they were all like these in this area............

View attachment 453928

But neither here nor there, and of no consequence.........

The chap asked about a bullet for 9.3 caliber....... I like the 200 Flat Base Raptors........ do anything I would do with a small medium bore......... end of story....... for me, bovine and bigger, make it 458 and bigger......... you chaps can do as you please............

Excellent....... doing some pressure work probably end of the week or so with 35 Whelen......I wish I still had the Win M70 I had built in 35 Whelen.......... always like the 35's..... still have a 358 STA and 358 RUM.........
@michael458
Did you end up doing your pressure testing on the Whelen.
Bob

All very interesting, but I will go with the Aussies and shoot as follows.
405 WCF --300 grain NF at 2250 fps or 400 grain Woodies at 2100 fps (both proven loads)
.458 rifles -- 450 grain NF at 2150 (shoots through Cape buff)

I liken it to the 30-06 with 150 and 180 grain bullets one is not better than the other just different choices for different jobs. All depends on what and where you are hunting.
