Bullet Performance Database

The bullet got him in the midlle (RED CIRCLE), turn and was about to exit fron shloulder (GREEN CIRCLE) to the SAME side!! So is like turn,
A similar thing happened to a fellow Marine- the Marine had an M16, 5.56mm FMJ spitzer that were either 50 or 55gr, I forget which. the NVA were overrunning our compound, the NVA soldier was about 25 yards away, running toward the Marine. The Marine shot hit the NVA in his left abdomen, the bullet exited at the same level but on the right side and nearly hit the Marine. Strange thing happen when bullets hit irregular materials.

That's the first I have heard of an expanding bullet of that size taking the scenic route.

Sometimes, the reason/explanation is well hidden. The bullet mystery paths and anomalies surely can happen.

That bullet picture looks as though it ended up being classical-picture Partition bullet form. The bullet path is an usual one. Interesting.

Was it a direct running away from you shot ? Or more of a broadside shot or angling shot ?
Thans for reply! Was broadside...some thin tall grass on the way too

Nice buffalo! Have you thought about trying the Woodleigh 350g HD SPs ? They hold together a bit better and still expand like crazy. I think you should get at 2300 in a 375 Ruger. I get 2550 fps in my Rem XCR II in 375 Weatherby which is still in Woodleighs recommended velocity range for that bullet.

Geoff should have the motto
If it's a Woodleigh it works.

Buffalo @25 meters, 500gr, 458 bullet out of 458 Lott at 2200fps
Retention 443.7 gr 89% Smacked hard, buffalo only went 40 meters and then just stood there with others surrounding it. When I saw the buff spewing blood not coughing I knew it was finished. Wanted to take a second shot but other buff didnt give me a chance.

Shot was taken at 20-25 meters a bit higher than what I wanted, the buffalo was running away from me. Bullet didnt end up under the skin but was found in the meat on the upper shoulder and exited the ribcage. Proper straight line penetration.

The bullet hit the liver and double lung and I suppose that is why the buffalo only went 40 meters before spewing blood from its nose and mouth.
This is my second buffao with the SBC bullet first recovered except for other plainsgame in the 375 H&H and I'm very impressed and will keep on using it. I can always get stock as its local and its proper.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
