Buffalo Charge Video!

This video clearly shows us the advantage of a double rifle. She was the only one who stopped the buffalo. But the PH was also excellent, because it's still a man who shoots, not iron.

Is it just me or did the second man in the green shirt and tan hat send a bullet within 12-18” of the PH’s right side?
Sure looked like it! But not being there, can't say for certain. Camera angles and all.

Yup. I was cringing at that.

I'm also always enjoying watching these videos because the PH and the hunter are typically in somewhat "earth tones" clothing and the guides look like they stole a bunch of scrubs from the local hospital.

I have a buffalo hunting question. I’ve seen a few videos where the buffalo has been lung shot, and it appears they start tracking immediately. Is there an advantage to tracking quickly vs waiting for him to get weak or die? Not criticizing just curious. In the US the Typical rule of thumb is to wait thirty minutes before tracking.

Kleinhans is a very well respected PH. I'll be blunt. He is also fortunate to be alive.

EVERYTHING is about the first shot. It doesn't matter what boots, hat, shirt, gunmaker, or chambering the client chooses. What matters is that the client puts the first shot exactly where it needs to go. Do it and everything is anti-climax. Fail, and you get a chance to blow a hole through your PH.

This. You cannot emphasize this point enough.
One of the reasons I favor bow hunting and using a single shot rifle.

Was that a beer at the 1/2 minute mark? Not conducive for good shooting. IF the dad was partaking as well

Well said

My first trip to Zimbabwe was in July and the day before our hunt Dalton had to shoot a wounded and charging lion, two days later York was hunting another area and had to deal with a wounded leopard at bayonet range.

Within days word came in that two PHs’ had been severely mauled by leopards in separate incidents and yet another was severely injured by a wounded Buffalo.

We owe it to the people who make their living guiding us on these hunts to hone our marksmanship and emotions…..

The deadliest creature on earth is a panic stricken man with a rifle.

I believe you're correct. That was a sketchy shot.

You’re 100% right just like on a fight. Make that first hit count.

Side note, Grant Taylor has his old area in Mozambique right? I know you’ve hunted with Grant so thought you might know better.

Shooting past someone at close range is not always a bad thing. It depends on the level of training or experience the people in that situation have.

Police, military and others are taught to shoot past each other in very tight CQB situations as a matter of normal training. I have no idea what is normal for a trained or experienced PH in that country.

What I could see in the video was that those shots all landed with some effect.

Very well said. Sometimes, though not ideal, it’s necessary.
