A commuter plane went into a flat spin and crashed into a residential area of Sao Paulo Brazil, killing all 62 on board.
It's a prop plane, and not a Boeing, and I'm waiting to find out who the manufacturer is, and what caused the crash.

Boeing is a sinking ship. It's laying off 10% of it's workforce, or approx 17,000 people.

Greed and sins are coming home to roost.

This is a natural cycle business have to go through to trim the fat and give the union a punch in the face. Maybe this will scare the heard a little and they will go back to work. I know the workers are complaining about cost of living and inflation but how long can they go without a paycheck. I suppose the long game is to move the factory in Seattle to a tax friendly state in the future with less union type of individuals. Also our weirdo transportation secretary a few days ago announced that the strike must end soon, so the feds do realize it’s a huge deal for the supply chain, which the same supply chain supply’s military aircraft. The more the stock falls the more I buy. I’m a believer that the company is going through bad times and eventually will turn it around, I believe the long game is good for returns, if someone wants to get rich now do not buy, but please continue to talk the stock down so guys like me can keep buying low when nobody else wants it!

Yes that is correct. Actually, if you were concerned about the country you to would buy stock to support one of the greatest companies ever during hard times. Also, after Moses came down from Mount Sinai he ordered the execution of 3000 people because they were worshiping a golden calf (cutting the fat). So for me laying off 17000 people is not a bad thing, they are doing what’s necessary to right the company. I sir are one of the few to take the risk to buy in order to gain profit which I promise is more patriotic then doing nothing and watching a great company go bankrupt. By buying stock you are saving jobs. The big picture is hard to see but when you can see all things are clear.

IIRC, In Lee Iacocca's book he said he could get rid of 5% of the employees and no one would ever miss them. In Boeing's case, it's 10% and that's probably the new 5%.

A tragedy for the victims and families. Prayers for them.

Like all aviation accidents, multiple factors are involved. They have the black box, and flight audio recorders recovered. Time will tell the whole story.

As we all follow this, questions come to mind:

- How did a bird strike in an engine affect the hydraulics? Maybe systemic damage? Interfered with the landing gear deploying? Not an engineer, just wondering.

- Pilots had to execute a go around after the first final approach. Were they struggling to control the plane with failing equipment?

- Were the flaps deployed for landing to slow the plane and maintain lift? From the video, I don't see flaps down.

- Why is the media (experts that they are) saying the front landing gear did not deploy? Obvious from the video that NO landing gear was down when it belly landed and came in fast.

- Did the pilots have a medical event, in the last minute that precluded calling for emergency fire crews and support for a crash landing? Certainly, the pucker factor was maxed out and can't second guess the pilots.

The flaps were not deployed, and the plane was coming in way too hot. The planed touched down too far down the runway to allow friction adequate time to bring it to a stop.
Its a 9200' runway.
Some of the experts commenting on it, said there could be other factors contributing to the crash.
If that plane has the capabilities, a fuel dump would have been prudent, IF, they had the time to do so?

Yes they can't.
But in a true emergency maximum landing weights will be ignored anyway.

Most current generation aircraft the size of a 737 or smaller dont have a fuel dump capability.. its not a requirement since they were purposefully designed and built to meet landing weight limits even when fully loaded.. (meaning their structure can withstand landing at full weight.. although if they do it, they are required to be inspected afterward)...

As an aircraft engine mechanic. The hard facts are if the landing gear worked when the aircraft was new , & does not work now its been damaged or its a maintenance issue, some of these developing countries do not have the people with skills to maintain aircraft to the required level.

My reference to a fuel dump has nothing to do with landing weights, but fire & explosion issues.
Doing a belly flop on a runway with a load of fuel can be a recipe for disaster, and so can slamming into a brick wall rupturing the fuel tanks.
Would more people have survived without the explosion? Probably, but more will be known if and when the crash report is made public.
Being an American manufactured plane, Im sure Boeing will be involved, and possibly NTSB.

The hydraulic system in transport category airplanes is partially powered by each engine. Point of fact in the 737 (and most airplanes), they handle the large consumers from a system standpoint. So that could be an issue, but shouldn’t with most “non-normal” situations.

As far as dumping fuel…. Most transport category airplanes can land at max takeoff weight with minimal impact. However when the Swiss cheese holes start to align and you add in other complications like a significant hydraulic issue (that would affect braking), or other issues, weight becomes more critical. A 9200’ runway is really minimal for a 737 with compromised braking capability. Especially if the surface was wet or any other issues. The 737, A319, A320, A321, and 757 cannot dump fuel. Widebody airplanes can dump fuel, but depending on the emergency, it’s not always wise to do so. If the airplane is controllable, I’m most likely going to enter a hold and burn off fuel. But if the emergency is affecting the controllability of the airplane, then I’m trying to get that airplane on the ground. Burning fuel obviously reduces the amount of fuel that could burn in case of fire after landing, but also reduces weight. Thereby reducing landing distance.

Hopefully something useful can be learned here, and in the Azerb. Air crash......I think the recent events in the US have overshadowed these stories from being updated. In Korea, the runway chosen was 9200 ft long, but maintenance issues had shortened the useable to 8200 ft, and the plane touched down far from the threshold. No gear (can be manually deployed in 737), no flaps, no speed brakes. ....So sad for the families. Hoping for an update.........FWB
