Blaser R8 barrels from PaleHorse Zero

Along the same thread.... has anyone had experience with J Sip and Sons for replacement Blaser Barrels? They are much more affordable than $3500 and looks like weeks on turnaround for a custom build...
Do not buy a Jisp & sons barrel. I just got mine back for a second time and it is still wrong and it took dozens of emails before Justin sent it back. Now I am trying to find a gunsmith to fix it.
AVOID!

What was wrong with yours? Mine had issues where bolt assembly would not fully close on it. Took two rounds of sending back to him before it was fixed. I admit it shoots great now, but sucks to have to have it re-worked like you're dealing with as well. A know a guy who had purchased an in-stock barrel and that worked on first try. Sucks that J Sip is so inconsistent and that they are so lacking in responsiveness.

My bolt wont fully close 100%. The bolt handle is off a few degrees. The lack of response makes me real nervous to send it back to him a second time. Yes, I sent this too him with the same problem and it was returned not fixed. I want to send it to someone else but I don't know who?

yup, same problem as mine. He did get it right the second time. Shouldn't have taken a second time though. Seems a consistent issue he has there. Before trying to go elsewhere, I'd keep trying with him to have him fix it.

So far Palehorse Zero has seemed to be doing good work. When my barrel makes it in I'll do a report on it.

It took 16 shots to settle in, this is 100 yards. 175gr precision hunter from Hornady.

I have read many complains against Sip's Blaser barrels, and a few against Palehorse as well, and I'm curious to know what is the US regulation about such gun makers ! Is it nornal to send a barrel without testing it before ?

In Europe, we have several gunsmiths who make custom Blaser barrel and there are at least 3 in my country. The first one manufactures them in one block with Lothar walter barrel blank and the 2 others fit Lothar walter and Proof Research barrel onto Akila extensions.

But before sending the barrel to the client, the gunsmith must send his barrel into a Proof house where it is tested with very hot loads producing pressures well above the maximum of the caliber. If it resists to this test, he received a CIP stamp and an official paper as a warranty. For safety reasons, it's better I think and at least, we have the garantee the barrel works.

I’ve heard good, great, bad and horrible reviews of all aftermarket barrels. And this is just about the product, there is another factor of customer service that runs the gamut of 0 to 10. It just depends and I don’t know what the factors are that make or break it.

However, a factory hammer forged barrel from Blaser ALWAYS works perfectly (the first time) with most having above average accuracy with factory ammo along with the nearly indestructible coating.

These benefits could easily justify the added expense. We all have choices.

The other downside of Blaser is not all cartridges are available from them and I’d also like to see DG cartridges available in semi-weight profile. Call them a bit cautious to react to trends in the ever shifting market.

I really wanted an 25/06 Ackley Improved. This is the only reason why I decided to go this way. Ive been planning this for years so my disappointment is big.

Blaser manufacturing is apparently entirely CNC based with very tight tolerances. I could imagine that conventionally working smiths have issues to keep up with this level of fit. that would explain a bolt not closing correctly. On the other hand, fitting such a barrel on a different R8 action, manufactured to the same tolerances should allow for a precise fit. Just my hypothesis.

Does anyone know of any gunsmith that makes after market barrels for a beretta BRX1?

I’m with @BeeMaa I will stick with the Blaser factory barrels. Their work is exactingly precise. And if there is a problem, they will fix it.

The detriment is I don’t have a .404 Jeffrey barrel. The benefit of the 7 barrels I do have is they are all common calibers and easy to get ammo for. I’m ok with not being unique since the gun is a tool for me that I bring on an adventure.

p.s. I still want a .404 J barrel!

Agreed! Pay up and cry once.

I’d like a 300 or 7mm prc barrel for my r8. After reading a few of these threads I’ve given up on the aftermarket and decided to stick with the factory blazer barrels in 7 mm RM or 300 WM.

The advantages of Blaser quality and accuracy, factory ammo availability worldwide, and resale value swayed me as did the recommendations of BeeMaa and others. However, I have found the lead time of Blaser and availability in Canada to be disappointing.

Going to have to get me one of those custom cases to transport it all conveniently.

I’ve had nothing but great experience with them. Nothing against my good friend Bee, but I don’t think he has a j sipp barrel. I now have 5

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
