Big Bore Addiction Group

thanks AkMike, but i actually found a source of them. besides for cheap plinking I have these 637gr cast bullets which cost me nothing but time to make. its Amon458 who will likely be the most interested in the Woodleigh 650's as i don't think he does any casting.

first im going to try and develop a load using the 750gr TSX. but im concerned that the TSX may not work well in this case because Barnes severely undersized the bullets. I measured some of these bullets at .582" which seems much too small. if not the TSX then ill use the 750gr Woodleigh SP which I will need some help finding since those are even less available at the moment then the 650gr BPE bullets.

i will keep you all posted on the fun i have with the 585 HE when it shows up.

Dog, you sure make rock fish and shrimp sound awfully good!

Sierraone,

If you ever make it up to Anchorage, and I am available (not working), likely I can fry up some rock fish & shrimp for you to try.
Most folks usually rant about halibut around here and it is good for sure but, I think rockies are superior and our local cod is also quite good when fried in that hot peanut oil.
Unfortunately, Alaskan rock fish have been "discovered" by the cooking channels on TV so now the prices are climbing.
Their flesh somewhat resembles crappie in texture and flavor but, in larger size of course.

Cheers,
Velo Doggozoid.

Down here in Pensacola, Red Snapper is the local fish that everyone gets excited over. Shrimp too, but usually boiled and served on ice, or grilled. My son on the other hand thinks blackened grouper is the only fish. When he visits, that is all he will eat! I am also a big salmon fan, but it has to be imported, probably from your part of the world. Scallops by far is my favorite shellfish, but not always easy to find here.

you guys are making me hungry... but still. unless your talking about launching fish from some kind of cannon we are getting :S Off Topic:.

New Ruger Model #1 in 458 Lott arrived today. Can't wait to make this go boom!

Nice! I believe the "boom" will be noticeable on both ends (y) :D

now thats what im talking about! make sure you give a good range report.

was this gun modified from a 458 WM or is it actually a factory Lott?

@CAustin Nice looking lott what length barrel is it

I believe all 1Hs have 24 inch barrels unless its been modified. Mine is in .416 Rigby, it and a .458 Win Mag I looked at buying have 24 inch.

im with ya Amon458, at first glance i would have guessed 20-22 inches.

I personally like a longer barrel.
it depends on the type of gun. ive owned two double rifles with 23-24 inch barrels and felt both were too short for my liking. ive owned two bolt action rifles with barrels longer then 24 inches and felt they were too long.

I have never had the experiance of holding a double so i cant say but I own 2 bolts with 24" or shorter and I wish they where longer I have 1 thats longer and prefer it same goes for lever guns. Which is kind of funny because I have fairly short arms so you would think I wouldnt like the balence of it.

i think my idea is 24" for a bolt gun and 28" for a double. anything much longer becomes a chore in heavy brush and anything much shorter doesn't fit my taste.

That's because the chamber is about 4-6 inches closer to your face than a magnum action bolt gun, which most of us are use to shooting. The overall length of the rifle is much shorter that what you are probably used to.

I have never fired a double rifle, but overall length should be shorter that our bolt guns for the same reason as the 1H. The chambers are just in front of your face.

This overall shorter rifle equates to more muzzle rise when firing as compared to my RSM of the same Rigby caliber. I would guess the Lott would be that much more so.
