Best hunting movies Africa or otherwise

Maybe one the best movies about hunting in Africa...

Yes "Out of Africa" is wonderful, and so are many movies listed above, but they are only peripherally about hunting.

Gentlemen, have you ever watched "In the Blood"?

It is a unique 1 hour 30 minutes blend of feature movie, modern hunting narrative, and historic documentary and safari film. It was never a commercial success and its diffusion has almost been confidential, but its used DVDs change hand for $400 to $500, and incredibly (!) it is currently posted on U Tube and has not yet been taken down.

For your viewing pleasure... (Click "Like" if you think it is worth other members watching it) :)

Just watched it, awesome documentary.

Really enjoyed this film, many thanks for introducing it to me. (y)

A few more to add to your list

1) Gods Must Be Crazy 2 (yes there was a second movie, and funnier than the first)

2) Flame Trees of Thika - The TV Series

3) Simba - If it includes hunting Mau Mau :)

4) Zulu Dawn (not a hunting movie, but you have noted Zulu

5) I am for the Hippopotamus - A classic Slap Stick comedy

6) Ashanti - If you call Slavers hunters that is - A real classic movie, highly recommended.

7) Call Me Bwana - Bob Hope

8) Night of the Grizzly - Clint Walker Western, well recommended.

9) Maya (1966) - Clint Walker as a hunter in India - movie is more on his son

10) Jock of the Bushveld (1986) - This is the better version of the story, not the cartoon movie version which came later - There is also a TV series, but haven't viewed it yet.

Regards

Rob

Love Blood Diamond great movie but cannot remember any hunting in the movie

There was a scene where DeCaprio returns from hunting bushmeat.

Ah forgot that scene. Great movie btw.

When seeing your avatar I remember I forgot to mention the film Roar (1981). Crazy scenes with lots of Lions and tigers. Remember reading An article that mentioned 70 crew members being hurt by the animals. It it set in Kenya, very amusing movie.

Well thank you. I am definitely set for the next couple of months.(y)

Because of this thread I already watched a few movies that are mentioned with mixed results.

Watched Hatari, was not my cup of tea, sorry guys.

Enjoyed The Naked Prey and really liked The Last Safari with Stewart Granger.

Lots more to come.

What would make a interesting movie or documentary is the TRUE story of "Colonel Patterson"! Not exactly the person portrayed in "The Ghost and the Darkness". One of many African themed movies I really enjoy is "The naked Prey", especially where the despicable clients meet their end!

G'day Tokoloshe,

What a classic name for a safari (Tokoloshe), I am chuckling my head off.:ROFLMAO:

Evil mischievous spirits commenting on ghosts in the darkness, it's a classic(y)

Hey, I totally agree, yes, it was a good movie, which did not require Mr Remingtons assistance to make it a good movie. But that's Hollywood.

I too have always loved watching the Naked Prey, I was totally fascinated with it, and it was my first observation of an African Snail (Giant Snail), as I never knew that snails grew that big.

There are a lot of hunting books with parts within that would make great movies. Ryder Haggard wrote some classic stories which movies were made of, but same thing, the directors changed them :(

Regards

Rob

I remember that when I was a child, "The Drums of Destiny" (Trommeln des Urwalds) made a strong impression. It's a South African documentary movie based on the book "Familie Michael in Afrika" , there's a pre-war Western with the same name, but it's not that. Interestingly, the girls also liked the film very much, I don't know why. Maybe because of the family thing?

Here is the one I highly recommend:
“In The Blood” (1989)
This docu-drama by George Butler is a warm-hearted story about a boy coming of age who retraces a legendary Africa safari by Teddy Roosevelt. It’s an honest portrayal of hunting, and it’s filled with nostalgia and humor. You can find it through the torrent search engine

Roger Moore was also a notorious anti hunter , Sir . He even made some very negative and irrational comments about hunting ... After shooting this film .
No just an Anti-Hunter... He was the driving force behind the Anti-Safari Hunting movement!

New movie, trailer.
(its not best movie ever, but did not know where to put it)

Ghost and the Darkness could have been a fantastic movie had they left out the Michael Douglas character. That character was awful. The true story line would’ve been all they needed.
One worth watching is The Man eaters of Kumaon. The story of Jim Corbett hunting the man eater, set in India, of course.

Sorry for resurrecting this post b
ut its very interesting. 1 Out of Africa
2 Wild Geese
3Game of Vultures
4white hunter black heart
5Blood Diamonds
6Siege of Jacksonville
7kuky gallmann africa
8Tears of the Sun
9The Ghost and the Darkness
10something of value

It’s not African but the razor back for 84
And the boar form the 00

Some one mentioned the Gods must be crazy and they’re was a 2. I want to see that

I recently watched The Macomber Affaire and really enjoyed it. I would like use to the collective knowledge of AH to ask the fellow members what great movies are made with hunting as a theme. Africa or otherwise.
@DieJager - the Movie “Naked Prey” mid 1960s with Cornel Wilde was a good depiction of Elephant hunting in the late 1800s-1900. A movie well made for it’s time.

Razorback from 1984 has it all . A giant pig ( the size of a Rhino according to the script ) , a 303 rifle , Outback Australia , and an American investigative journalist who is eaten by the pig and only identified by her wedding ring in the pig faeces . I mean guys what more can you want from a movie !

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,

Franco
