Best hunting movies Africa or otherwise

Here's a few for you. Not all hunting of course.
Some are better than others but worth a watch depending on if you want an intense watch or just get carried along on an entertaining adventure.

@Adrian - Only the movie “Mogambo” makes my list and the African hunting has nothing to do with it —- Gable is getting the most action from Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner !!! The two hottest babes in the World at that time… Of all the actors in Hollywood - Gable and Errol Flynn got the most “play”

Some great ones have been mentioned. I may have missed it, but I also love

Harry Black and the Tiger (1958)

Rampage (1963)

Apparently Gable only got the “Action “ in the movies . Bunny Allen was the PH and technical advisor for the movie . Reputedly he got the real action with Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly while they were on location .

Many commentators here refer to “The Ghost and The Darkness” as a favourite movie . While others have listed “The Macomber Affair “. It is interesting that JH Patterson was an influence for both . We all know about his hunting the lions on his own ( no ghastly Michael Douglas character needed ) but less well known was his appointment as Game Warden for British East Africa . In this capacity he was on safari with Audley Blyth ( son of Baron Blyth ) and his wife Edith Blyth . Under mysterious circumstance Audley was shot inside a tent with his wife Edith present . The body was quickly buried on the site . It subsequently caused a hullabaloo in Parliament with various questions asked about what happened . Patterson was not charged but his reputation was somewhat tainted . This was reportedly the story Hemingway heard on his safari in mid 1930s resulting in his story “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber “ in 1936. Consequently Patterson’s adventures influenced 2 well known African hunting movies.

I am ancient and have not been to a movie in year, am deaf too. I Like the movies mentioned but would like to mention one of my favorites which is Casablanca which is technically in Africa. Yes, I know it was not filmed there. Thank you all

No Country for Old Men (2007)-IMDB Synopsis- Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong and over two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.

That movie is one wild ride and all starts out with a pronghorn hunt. The whole rest of the movie is a hunt…but just a manhunt. I absolutely love the movie. My brother hates it. Tommy Lee Jones in the closing scene…I’m probably in a small minority that grew up riding the range on horses, and hunting, and chasing cows with my dad. But the last 30 seconds of the movie hit me hard.

The Revenant (2015)- IMDB Synopsis -“A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team.”

Some wonderful cinematography in this movie, and based on a true story.

And even more peripherally- The Lost World : Jurassic Park (1997) gives pretty fair treatment to its professional hunter in the end. And the first Jurassic Park movie has the famous “We’re being hunted” scene with the game warden brought to the park from he’s precious post in Kenya.

The book is great too and helps fill in some gaps regarding Tommy Lee Jones's character which went unanswered in the movie .

Paid in blood, a documentary on Amazon Prime about relocating rhino from a hunting concession in Namibia to the DRC

Not just at the time. I consider Grace Kelly to be the all time number one.

@PCC600 - well “if True” that should be listed in Roland & Ward record books - better then a set of 100 lb tusks!!

@Russ16 - that’s because You’re OLD (and so am I)…. But agree, she makes all time Top 10 list

@Cooposo - I was disappointed in “The Revenant”, too many obvious Computer-Generated-Images AND they fabricated the “true” parts of the story…the entire event really took place during the Summer months but I guess surviving a Grizzly attack wasn’t exciting enough for Hollywood - so they added Winter/Snow. They also Cut-the-barrel-length on the rifles used because the Director didn’t like the Look of the long barrels that were used actually during that time period. Lastly, all those scenes where they crossed rivers in below zero temps and got soaking wet, —- no Mountain Men or backwoods Men opted to cross a river in Below zero temps —- they knew they’d die. I think the movie “Jeremiah Johnson” with Robert Redford was a more accurate depiction of 1800s Mountain Men (except for all the Indian fight/killing scenes)….Just my opinion

In fairness she died when I was 8! LOL

But I’ve alway like the classic look. Barbara Feldon was my first celebrity crush.
@Russ16 - Get Smart…. Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) had the hotter bod !

I really like:
King Solomon’s Mines (1950)
Harry Black & The Tiger (1956)
Watusi (1959)
Last Safari (1967)
Ghost & The Darkness (1997)

I think that Ghost & The Darkness is the last film to be made in recent times which portrays big game hunting in a positive light.

Very valid opinions! I didn’t love the movie either. No doubt that Jeremiah Johnson is a better movie from top to bottom. The Revenant is not a great movie by any stretch. But it’s ok and I thought it worth mentioning in this thread. I guess I mention it cause it could scratch a certain itch, and it was cool to see any such movie made in 2015.

I guess I overlooked bison hunting in Dances With Wolves too! Should have mentioned that.

In the Blood is a very good safari movie. It’s about Theodore Roosevelt IV and his son on safari in Moyowasi with one of Teddy Rosevelt’s old rifles. Excellent cinematography and soundtrack.
