Batteries???

Personally, I don't like to depend on batteries for rifle optics.

I've owned 2 (lower-end) scopes (Vortex & Burris) with illuminated features, and thought both were terrible.


In regard to batteries, I've had nearly $2,000 worth of equipment destroyed by alkaline batteries.

In my case, Duracell and Ray-O-Vac.


Granted, all situations worked out to my (sub-standard) satisfaction, in the end.

But, having useless equipment when I need it, is intolerable.

What has happened to alkaline batteries???

All of these are D's, AA's, or AAA's


Ruined:

10 - Mag-Lights
2 - Handheld GPS units
1 - VHS Marine Handheld Radio
1 - NOAA Weather Alert clock-radio
5 - headlamps


Duracell was pretty good.
Ray-O-Vac was difficult, but ultimately came through with something, barely, tolerable.

No experience with Energizer, yet...

Can anyone shed some light on why alkaline batteries destroy everything I put them in before the "expiration" date?

Rifle scopes have Lithium batteries first of all. However, I’m not sure what you’re doing that’s allowing batteries to destroy your equipment. I haven’t had the issue with Duracell or Energizer. I have had some corrosion with cheap Chinese batteries but I’ve just scraped away the corrosion, replaced the batteries, and not had issues. Are you storing the equipment wet? I’d think my browning trail cameras would be most susceptible to corrosion because ill use them a second year if I still have battery life, but I haven’t seen an issue with them.

Destroy as in what, leak?

It’s not a flaw, it’s a feature of the Alkaline design caused by its corrosive ingredients

Usually moisture is the culprit of shortened life span in my experience. Keeping these items dry is best practice, even if they are sealed for water resistance.

Also, don’t leave them stored in the device for long periods of time.

No experience with Energizer, yet...

Sir I hate to break it to you but Energizer is the only brand with a no leak gaurentee.

I learned that from experienced scuba divers when doing my check out dives; apparently some of the high end dive lights will only work with energizer batteries.

I had been warned and showed up with Energizer AA & D batteries for the provided lights on our swift current night dive for rescue recovery certification and had zero issues.

The Duracell and Rayovac people were having major issues.

FYI I feel the same about batteries on weapons, but RMR’s on my .470 & .375 have changed my mind….. battery life 1 year of constant use, I just changed the battery before and brought a spare on my Safari.

I've had two sets of Duracell leak into the battery area. I caught one in time but the other one ate the battery post.

I cleaned that one up and found a replacement post and contacts to get things working.

That one was my fault. I usually remove the batteries when it wasn't in use but blew it off. Both of the above items were electronic items. I haven't had a problem with a flashlight............yet.
