So somewhere last year and then begining this year the idea got dropped with me and the chairman of KZN hunters that BASA would go down to Kwazulu Natal and do a big bore shoot there.
After a bunch of organizing and setting dates off we went.
Shoot was a scheduled for Saturday 9th of August 2025.
I left Pretoria 11am on Thursday morning for the 7 hour trek down to KZN with all our BASA gear and arrived there tired but happy to be there it was dark when I arrived and I have never been to that side of our country. So getting there in the dark I had no clue what it looked like except for rolling hills bad traffic and a lot of sugarcane.
I was hosted by a gentelman who has hunted quite a few places, Canada, Russia and then of course Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and plenty in South Africa and has a superb trophy room.
Friday early we went to the Dalton shooting and gun club to go and scout how to build the 3 ranges and it took us most of the day but it will go faster next time.
Anyway I am not going to post a longer report but you could rather see the video of what actually happens at a BASA big bore range, keep in mind we never have the same range always setup different scenarios although using same targets and getting new ones regurlaly.
Best fun you can have with a bigbore except for a real hunt.
Good practise and getting to know your gear and yourself.
