B. Searcy 500/416 NE

Two thoughts
One is that not all of Butch's entry level guns have timed screws. So a good chance no one has been into the gun since leaving the factory.

Second, the 500/416 is a interesting cartridge but I personally feel it has a much sharper recoil than the older NE cartridges. The 450NE is much milder in my experience.

thanks for that info kebco, good to know it might not have been monkeyed with.

as far as recoil, I have not had the opportunity to try cartridges such as the 450 NE or the 470 NE so I don't have anything to compare it too. this Searcy in 500/416 NE is very easy to deal with in the recoil department. at 11 pounds the gun delivers a stern shove but nothing uncomfortable. if it had a hinged front trigger I would say its perfect comfort wise.

Hopefully you'll get it back soon. Anxious to know what he does to fix it.

Matt, have you heard anything back on your double yet?

sorry heym88, for some reason im not getting email notifications about new posts any more.

unfortunately I haven't heard anything new about the rifle. I sent an email last week asking for an update but no response yet. its about time for another email to be sent.

just got an email response:

Matt,
I haven't done anything yet, when I start I'll let you know.
Butch

Hang in there Matt, last time I talked to him, he was working by himself. He'll fix it.

no word yet. :(

Matt, haven't been on here in a while. Did Butch ever get your guns fixed?

nope, still waiting...

I sent him an email last week but no response yet.

Who's been in possession of the rifle longer, you or Butch? Cut your losses and find another. Been there, done that ....

Butch has had the gun much longer then me. however cutting my losses isn't possible. I purchased the gun used and it technically does not have a warranty, so he doesn't have to fix it. if he doesn't fix it then its an extremely expensive paper weight!

my hope is that he fixes it so I can put it up for sale. for at least the moment ive given up on double rifles and will stick with single barreled guns.

Butch is usually up to his eyebrows in work. If he said he'll fix it then he will. Bugging him will put it further back in the line up I'd think.,

id hardly call an email every 4 months to be "bugging" someone.

That sounds very reasonable to me also. There are some that'd be on the phone every other day though.

You know the kind..

got a response for the email I sent recently. Butch says he will try to get to my rifle around the end of March. he didn't seem to happy about my email, suggesting he could send the rifle back if that time frame didn't work for me. like I could possibly take the rifle back in its current condition.

At least he responded.... And gave some kind of time frame.

Better than Montana!!!! I still can't get over that one....

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
