Some months ago, I posted a report about my life long quest for a Capercaillie. That quest came to fruition in the Austrian Alps.

I am happy to report that the big bird arrived in Texas today in perfect shape. Sincerest thanks to Safari Specialty Importers https://safarispecialtyimporters.com/, My wonderful friend, outfitter, and guide Martin Neuper of FN Hunting https://www.fnhunting.com/, and my Austrian taxidermist, Schwarz-Taxidermy https://www.schwarz-taxidermy.at/modules/myalbum/index.php?location_id=92

A Capercaillie is a once in a lifetime trophy.

Creative Mount. Have to remember that one for the future.

Very cool. I’ve seen them while out in Scotland but have never had the opportunity to hunt them. I remember your write up, what a great memory!

Well done, love those birds !

I’m afraid to say the mount doesn’t look very life like lol

But sure is well mounted !

Now you should get a black grouse to go with him, another rare and splendid trophy. A good excuse to go back again

You are correct. But it does look very dead like!

Very interesting birds as well. Was fortunate to take a couple of those back in the day.

Changed it to this. Much prefer the "Les fruits de la chasse" look to the fake shrubbery.

Congrats on a challenging hunt and a beautiful specimen! I actually like both of the adornments you had, whether the wreath or the hunter's horn. A far cry from the typical silk ficus stuck into fake mud around a pedestal mount!

Very classy animal and a great picture of you with your trophy! Congrats!

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
