I don't pretend to know everything about Australia as I have only been there five times BUT I have family (and several friends) in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Moranbah. Their period of residence ranges from 17 - 40+ years so they are not fresh arrivals. They have seen the ups and downs. They ALL, with the exception of one liberal cousin, say that what is happening over there is nearly as bad as they have seen in other parts of the world where governments have cracked down hard. Furthermore, the power grab is worse and the consensus is that it is going to lead to a virtual police state if the population doesn't wake up. The mainstream media does NOT show the everyday power abuses by the police.

Excessive force, macing someone already in handcuffs walking sedately to the paddy wagon, Violently shoving a 70+ year old woman to the tar and macing her when she's down, threatening someone with arrest for standing on the pavement with an Australian flag a block or two away from a march. Anyone who defends this type of behaviour is a coward defending other cowards in uniform. I grew up defending and being proud of policemen and soldiers but what I've seen in Australia sickens me to me core. It is state sanctioned brutality.

Victoria will be the catalyst then the other states will see that they can grab a little more power because it worked in Victoria.

Power grabs, revolutions, crackdowns and uprisings always starts with a single event and then it is accepted. It grows from there. Australians have to ask themselves one question: Do they want the government to have more power over them or do they want to have the power to tell government "You work for us!"?

I don’t know how much is seen down under, but the videos here are pretty ominous. Like a couple of others here, I do find calling this man of color and child of the Jewish Diaspora from Yemen to Israel a “Nazi” one of the more humorously uninformed comments I have seen in a while. I even double checked the quote. He was clearly mocking the ignorance of his critics.
