August 2024 Taxidermy quote **STICKER SHOCK**

IMG_3509.jpeg

Wow. Ridiculously high quotes.

Just for comparison pricing, I paid $950 total for my Desert Bighorn Sheep shoulder mount about a month and a half ago near Indianapolis.

Best of luck, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

I just received a quote from a reptuable taxidermist in the northeast. There are others that I am contacting. Does some one have suggestions on another taxidermist from Maryland to New England area? I may have to take a chance and have them mounted in Africa and have them shipped. Here is the quote. Thank you.

Greater Kudu Shoulder Mount - $2,510.00
Zebra Pedestal Mount - $$3,750.00 plus the cost of the base. Base costs are determined by style and type of wood chosen.
Eland Shoulder Mount - $3,950.00
Gemsbok Shoulder Mount $2,100.00
Hartebeest Shoulder Mount $1,925.00
This is what I paid Splitting Image Taxidermy in Port Elizabeth

Wow, what a desert ram! Look at the broomed flare on that beast. Why do we not have a hunt report on this one? He's awesome.

I posted a full hunt report and numerous photographs on hunttalk.com and more pictures on rockslide.com. I figured that since I hunted this desert Bighorn sheep in Arizona that I would post The Hunt report on those sites versus an African hunting site. Happy hunting, TheGrayRider A.k.a. Tom.

Erik just had my New Mexico elk delivered. Base was custom done by Erik and looks great! I will try to post a photo later! Erik does great work. Hopefully he will have a big mule deer for me (that I haven’t hunted) in the near future!!

I will look for that report. I think it would be great to have it here too but that's your call of course. I'm going to post a hunt report of an aoudad sometime...and other hunts here.

Those prices are ridiculous. I was just updating my spreadsheet of where my taxidermy is and the various statuses...3 countries and 6 different shops...and I said I was done bringing stuff home. This next Africa hunt in Oct I'm going on the record...bring nothing home! Can I get a witness?!
Only the ivory...just saying

Those are definitely high and yes might very well be a tactic to keep incoming flow down until the backlog can be reduced.

We used African Wildlife Artistry for our 2022 hunt. I was very happy with the work and the crating was exceptional. What pisses me off here in Canada is the cost of tanning. Whitetail Cape $100.00. Impala Cape $300.00. As soon as it's Africa price triples!

Ya I had a $17,000 quote for taxidermy stateside and a 2 year turn around. That didn’t count dip and pack cost or time or import costs. My bill from bullseye was about $6,800 and a 10-12 month turnaround for half dozen shoulder mounts (I wasn’t going to get that many but the kids wanted their stuff mounted) 2 full bodies (steenbok and porcupine) 3 skulls a zebra rug and a bunch of back skins that the wife wanted to make a patchwork rug, plus kudu horn cores and warthog leather. Be a big crate so I’m guessing shipping costs will be expensive. Prices are all over the board but they told me to expect $3-4k in shipping. We shall see when the time comes.

Just for comparison, here is a recent quote from Bullseye on shoulder mounts, pedestal mounts, etc...bases are not quoted here since there are so many variables.

Looking forward to your aoudad report.

One of my favorite creatures and they really ignited my hunting passion to another level.

Those prices are absolutely ridiculous. Like many have said just ship your crate elsewhere and have them done.

Here is a local in Texas that my friend has a RSA and namib crate at. I will use her on my dip and pack from Namibia.

While those prices are high, I’ll admit I’ve seen higher from a several of the big name shops where the name that made them and won the awards won’t even be touching your animals.

@gizmo does great work.

In the northeast you can try Joe at Northeast Taxidermy or Johnny at Its A Trophy Taxidermy. Both are based out of Connecticut. Johnny is a personal friend, a retired/disabled Navy Veteran who touches each piece himself and really specializes in Africa stuff. Joe does award winning work, he’s a bigger studio with a bunch of people working for him but he tends to do the fish and African stuff letting his crew turn through the typical deer and North American species.

Look up Dan martin of reflections of the wild taxidermy in deer park Maryland. I feel he does good work and has fair prices. He has done a pronghorn for me and is doing my 2023 Africa trip
Dam is in fact 1st class. He is not in Deer Park - he is in Oakland near Deep Creek. But... he is not cheap. The prices that the OP posted is VERY close to Dan's. In fact, I wondered if that's Dans quote. Good work ain't cheap.
