Arnhem Land Australia Cull Buffalo Hunt

Is it OK to us a 35 Whelen? Asking for a friend.
@Bob Nelson 35Whelen
Most certainly is! The correct projectile and load will do the job! Nice and close and look them in the eye! I have a client hunting with us this year using a 35 whelen!

What would it run to add a "trophy" bull to the package?
Also, what is the drive time from point of pickup to camp?
It is an 8 hour scenic drive to camp. $4500 for an add on trophy bull

Regards Alex

Is water buffalo the only game you can offer? What other species do exist on your concession?Wingshooting or other mammals?Culling horses, camels and donkeys?Barramundi we know of.OK.but only water buffaloes?

How about using a bow for this? Also, is any of the meat exportable? I would love to bring home some filets.

There is also scrub bulls and pigs on Alex’s buff concession. Barramundi and camels are available also with Alex but in other areas he has. The buff concession is remote central Arnhemland…

Bows wouldn’t be an issue. Meat recovery because of location and logistics could well be problematic.

I don't need all the meat. Just thought I might be able to cut out 10-20 pounds or so from each one and throw it in a cooler until I get back to camp. Freeze them and ship them in a Yeti cooler or two.

It’s probably up to your country if you can bring the meat in but I expect it would be a huge expense even if the outfitter can assist with getting the meat to town.
There are some great esky’s available here but you would still want to restrict transport time to about 3 days if you could line it up. There may not be air freight out of Darwin.

I’m sure the outfitter would prepare some fresh Buffalo for you in camp if requested. All the prime cuts and maybe a camp oven stew.

So just for those curious, any shipment that is not with your own luggage on an airline is considered commercial. Lots of hassle for that. Personal consumption one can bring up to 50lbs of meat back provided they can document it was from Australia. It seems that showing the passport is enough, so a documented hunt with photos should be sufficient.

As for bringing 50 lbs of meat back, I bought an RTIC cooler. They may be "better" coolers out there, but the RTIC was the lightest weight modern YETI style cooler capable of holding product frozen for multiple days. It weighs 21lbs for a 52 quart cooler. My plan is to deep freeze the filets and bring them back home. I should be able to get them down to 0 degrees F and they would still be well under 32 F by the time I get back in the US. The airline limits me to a max of 70 lbs for any single piece of luggage, so I should be able to get 49 pounds of my 50 pound allowance back home.

I leave in 13 days. My plan is to add a trophy bull to my hunt and have the horns copied to modified to replace the boss on my Cape buffalo 3D archery target so that I can have an Australian water buffalo target as well.

Please let us know how it goes. I will most definitely do this hunt with a Bow in the future as well

Alex is out hunting in camp as we speak. He does have Starlink but he may take a bit to reply. His WhatsApp (Mobile/WhatsApp +61 42 939 8704) may be the best option.

I am in camp at Arnhem right now. No time to post yet but if you pass on this hunt, you are a fool. Amazing time. Hunt report coming when I get home.

I'm jealous! It's a fantastic spot.
Enjoy your hunt and we look forward to the report!

Just a quick update. I finished my hunt early and am headed to another part of the NT. Alex arranged a banteng hunt for me. If successful, I will complete the wild oxen of the world at Diamond level with this trip.

Mike is going to have some great stories to share!! Seen a sneak peak of some the hunts so far!! Can’t wait to hear the stories!!

I have to get my report written up. I arrived home this morning and am beat as I went in to work and put in nearly a full day.

I will say that bringing in the meat was a breeze. 50 pounds max per person. Just bring your Yeti or Yeti style cooler. My meat was still frozen rock solid when I got home.
