Photos speak volumes. 20 yrs practicing music, etc. .. Used to collect Chainsaws. Sold them all, except for one. Helped finance a double.

When I was a teacher hunting wasn't really practical but I had lots of time off in the summer. So I got into packrafting.

Packrafting is about as close as you can get in today's world to the kind of exploring we read about. There are still unrun rivers and rivers that change constantly. If you want to feel nervous try steering a 6 pound inflatable boat through a canyon full of rapids.

Before that I did really really ultralight backpacking. A few times i whittled my gear weight down to 5 pounds. Add food and water and you are hiking with maybe 12 pounds for a weekend. You can't normally do that for a long trip (or in Alaska) but it's a fun challenge in tamer wilderness areas.

Lots of fun to be had if you get creative.

History (antiquity mostly, although a bit of WW1/WW2/British Empire that's adjacent to my shooting/hunting interests.)

The most expensive toy I've ever bought is currently sat in a Milwaukee showroom awaiting my visa and eventual arrival to the US. One of these:

I also play around with cigars, scuba diving, light aircraft and sailing boats, albeit a bit more casually.

It's a wonder I ever have any money!

I make knives and occasionally build rifles when time allows.. I also tinker around with leathercraft and make ammo pouches, slings, and other "hunting" items.. and have gotten much more serious about handloading as well.. I make all of these things for hunting buddies, friends, etc as well (never made any of them for the purpose of selling..)..

Ultimately its all tied back to hunting.. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing I built the rifle.. I loaded the ammo.. I made the ammo pouch and the sling, etc... that was used to take my quarry... I also made the knife to skin and cape, etc..

I read a crap-ton, but I don't think that's what you meant. I enjoy snowmachining, trapping, fishing, camping, and rafting. I am building my own cabin on a remote piece of property (the beach fire is the view down lake from my property) I acquired in a state land lottery. I paint and write (I've had articles published in national magazines), and I used to have a side business doing fish taxidermy. I still dabble in it for friends. I enjoy cooking, and my background is as a teacher, and I still find outlets for that, even though I'm not in the classroom anymore. I used to be a big sports fan but swore that off (as a spectator) after every major pro sports league threw in with BLM. I do still very much like basketball, and still play, or did before covid. I used to coach HS ball. I am also very active in my church. Oh, and I love my job. I'm one of the fortunate ones who likes what I do enough that Mondays are just another happy day of the week.

Honestly, all I do anymore is work, balance the books, laundry & grocery shop .. but I'll never underestimate it & am grateful. A good film and photography "from someone else" is often appreciated.

I have acquired hobbies over the years and never completely let any go. Hunting was a passion from an early age. When I got a drivers license, cars and girls came into the picture. Moved from cars to 4x4s and antique tractors. The 1884 cubic inch two cylinder tractor in my avatar led to machine work. That led to machine tools, antique and modern.
Now I hunt, have a wife, a fast car, Jeep rock crawler, 4x4 truck, antique tractors, and machine tools. Still brew beer and mead occasionally.
Danged good thing I retired last week!
