Any gin drinkers here?

Bombay sapphire gin and dry white vermouth shaken of course. Now the garnish, this can take a martini to another level. A garlic stuffed olive, a pearl onion and a pickled quail egg. This is a drink and a meal. Such a concoction can sustain one for long periods of time. Skewer the garnishees with a plastic sword rather then a tooth pick because like hey it’s a sword and swords are cool.

I once made the mistake of being in Hungary during Sukkot and had nothing but home distilled fruit liquor of some dangerously high proof forced on me for the whole week.

Ahhh. I have fond memories of palenka back when I had a team in Budapest. I miss the food.
Some of the palenksa (sp?) was amazing, some was diesel fuel.

I can't recall the name but it came in a spherical black bottle that looked like the holy hand grenade from Monty Python.

Just did a blind taste test of four gins. Bombay Sapphire, Beefeater London Dry, Tanqueray London Dry and Kirkland London Dry.

I tried them neat and chose them in the following order...
1. Bombay Sapphire
2a. Beefeater London Dry
2b. Tanqueray London Dry
4. Kirkland London Dry

My bride had two mixed in T&T's and her results were
1. Kirkland London Dry
2. Tanqueray London Dry

Not sure what this means yet. But I know for certain that we will be buying liquor at Costco more often. The prices there are just crazy!

I'm kind of a snob when it comes to booze. Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray Rangpur are my go-to in the gin world. All they had at camp in Limcroma was Gordon's. "Any port in a storm" and all that. I gotta say...I enjoy it on the rocks nearly as much as I do Sapphire or Rangpur. And at about half the price, I'm finding it hard to not keep some on the bar.

Ginsnobbery!

I spent 14 years of college and work within 30 minutes of a major Mexico “border town”. On many Friday and Saturday nights we used to walk and bar hop a couple of the main drags. That was back in the late 60s when it was not suicidal. Our faves were gin & 7 or vodka & 7 @ an average of 20 cents for either. I’m certain both were “house” brands and the cheapest available. If nothing else that was a self-affirming absolute test for my resistance to alcoholism. I can’t remember having a gin drink since ??? Gin is pleasant to my taste but haven’t lost any sleep without the ole G&T. Crisp unique hint of juniper berry perhaps?

I mostly drink Bombay Sapphire or the French gin Citadelle but I'm happy with whatever brand gets served to me.

A Sapphire martini with a twist is a common drink order when I'm eating seafood. If I was making dinner for a date & needed a cocktail to appear, a Tom Collins was always an option depending on what was being served. Pad Thai & French 75's has appeared multiple times recently whenever I get together with friends to cook dinner. It started out as an excuse to get rid of some New Year's champagne that was lingering in a refrigerator but has become a favorite combination as a result. The easiest drink to fix is to grab a Fever-Tree tonic to make a G&T with a lime.

I like them both, but I think Bombay Far East is also very good, I just can't ever seem to be able to find any in a handle.

Ha! Rereading my reply (which was very gin-specific), I see your point.

Irish Whiskey & Scotch neat are what I drink about 90% of the time but gin is something I do drink occasionally during the summer time or if I'm in making drinks for other people.

Dad has a MS and PhD in entomology, I learned much at his knee. Also had to learn some forestry, botany, and soils. His BS was agronomy.

I haven't seen any scorpionflies in years upon years, I always thought that was the coolest insect I've ever seen.

I grew up in the swamps of Louisiana about 50 miles south of New Orleans. There were dragonflies hovering around the backyard all the time. I thought they were pretty cool too. So when the internet was just getting started & I was looking for a name & an avatar (mainly to use on computer & technical websites), I randomly chose the scientific order odonata & a dragonfly (although at one time I did use Bill the Cat). That login (which I also use on all of my Linux boxes) has followed me ever since.

Grand Isle or Fourchon?
