Alaskan that hates the heat

I'm also considering 375. But when I get to Africa one day, I'll need an excuse to get another rifle lol

Although I've never been one to go against someone looking for just one more firearm. Best of luck with it.

I respect the sentiment but I have never seen that "one gun" statement to be true.

The dudes I know that have only one rifle get it bore sighted at Cabela's and never verify zero and accessorize it with the cheapest items from Temu and Wish lol.

If I had to stick with one, hand loading my RCM though solves 99% of every issue.

Yeah I'm looking at loading up my 338 with better bullets as the rare factory ammo is only SST projectiles, sadly.

And honestly, 375 Ruger vs H&H vs 9.3 isn't easier to find across the board when it comes to premium bullets. Easiest is H&H corelokt but not my first choice for big bears
I’d look into Hammer bullets. I bet the 213gr Hammer Hunter would be effective out of your 338 RCM.

Welcome.
As someone who worked last winter in Alaska before moving to Arizona I envy you.

G’day from Australia.

My name is Chris and I hate the cold.

Be aware of @BeeMaa he might might be pushing the One gun Blaser R8 agenda.

Seriously, plenty of guys here defend their Blaser R8 but at least BeeMaa has a sense of humour.

I have used 124gn Hammer Bullets in my .308 and got great accuracy. Some pigs dropped to the shot. 3 Feral cats did not argue with them but I have had Fallow deer do a short sprint after being hit.

I can be found on the other forums under the same name.

Keen to see bear pics.

Welcome to AH! I hunt with my Browning .338WM for elk, but I wouldn't be opposed to hunting with a Ruger .338RCM if I could find a Guide Gun at a reasonable price. Nice moose BTW!

Hello JeeperCreeper,

Khomas Highland Hunting and Fishing Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.

I too live in Alaska but I’m a city slicker (Los Anchorage).
Coastal Alaska weather is much to my liking.

9.3x62 or .375 caliber ?
Either one will serve you well.
But, as others have said already, 9.3 ammunition availability might sometimes be an issue.
However as of last Friday, Great Northern Guns here in Anchorage had 3 or 4 boxes of it on their shelves.

Meanwhile, when you can spare a minute, I invite you to have a look into the Khomas Safaris website.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

Man, one day I'll get an R8!

Maybe a matching Audi version too!!

Awesome little rifles! I got mine for 400 bucks off a guy that tried to market it as a winmag. Lucky found a crate of ammo locally for 12 bucks a box.

If Hornady ever shares their Superformance recipe for the RCM, it's a great cartridge. Sadly, it's basically a wildcat at this point.

I'm in Eagle River so I'm not too far!

I keep my eyes on all the local shops, I'll have to remember to check them out since it's been a little while. Alaska Ammo normally has the boutique stuff, but they are all out of almost all the bigger bore stuff lately.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
